German tire manufacturer Continental is known for their industry-best tires that are used on a wide variety of vehicles. In 2017, Continental upped the performance market with the release of the ExtremeContact Sport, which has consistently been one of the top performers in its class. Five years later, Continental is back with an even better summer ultra-high-performance tire in the ExtremeContact Sport 02.

Benefits of the new and improved Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02

Ultra-high-performance tires are engineered to go fast, and that’s exactly what the ExtremeContact Sport 02 does. In closed testing, the ExtremeContact Sport 02 provided faster lap times in dry conditions than the ExtremeContact Sport. This was possible thanks to a few different features:

  • SPORTPLUS+ Technology that allows for incredibly responsive handling and increased grip. Handling and grip aren’t for dry roads only, though, as the technology is engineered to perform in wet conditions as well.
  • A large footprint and wide shoulder blocks that put more rubber on the road for quicker acceleration, shorter braking distances, and confident cornering, even when driving at higher speeds.
  • An asymmetrical tread pattern that utilizes two similar and one different rib to further increase handling performance while also boosting stability and grip.

All of these features were then put together and tested on the track to ensure high-end performance.

Packed with great street features, too

Sports and muscle cars can be used on the track or in competition driving, but they typically spend the majority of their time on paved roads. Knowing this, Continental incorporated additional features into the ExtremeContact Sport 02 for daily driving:

  • Wide and narrow grooves that drain water out of the tread to reduce the risk of hydroplaning on wet roads.
  • Tuned Performance Indicators, in the form of “DW” lettering within the tread blocks that will disappear when the tire is no longer optimized for use in dry or wet conditions.
  • A 30,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for standard fitments, or a 15,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for the rear of staggered fitments so that drivers get plenty of miles out of their purchase.

Whether you’re looking to win a race or simply commute to and from work in a sports, luxury performance, or muscle car, the ExtremeContact Sport 02 is packed with the technology to help you get it done.

Covered under the Continental Total Confidence Plan

Like most Continental tires, the ExtremeContact Sport 02 is covered under the company’s Total Confidence Plan. This includes a 30,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for standard fitments, or a 15,000 mile limited warranty in rear staggered fitments, a 60 day trial period, and 3 Years of Roadside Assistance and Emergency Trip Interruption (typically, flat tire assistance), and Road Hazard Coverage.

Continental believes that the ExtremeContact Sport 02 is engineered to perform at a high-level and is willing to cover any unexpected issues that might arise during the tire’s covered tread life.

Who is the ExtremeContact Sport 02 best suited for?

As an ultra-high-performance tire, the ExtremeContact Sport 02 is meant for vehicles that are built to go fast such as sports, luxury performance, and muscle cars. This includes, but is not limited to, the Mazda Miata, Toyota Supra, Ford Mustang, Audi S4, BMW 528i xDrive, Porsche 911, Chevrolet Corvette, and Acura NSX.

Drawbacks of the ExtremeContact Sport 02

No tire is perfect, and that’s true for the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02. As a summer tire, the ExtremeContact Sport 02 is not engineered for use in colder weather conditions or ice, slush, and snow. If you live in an area that typically sees highs below 45 degrees for a few months, then you’ll need to swap the ExtremeContact Sport 02 for a set of winter or all-season tires.

Additionally, the ExtremeContact Sport 02 is not a tire that’s built for use on every vehicle. While the tire can fit a Honda Civic and be used in daily driving, it’s really best suited for sports, muscle, and luxury performance cars. Likewise, minivans and trucks are not recommended fitments for the ExtremeContact Sport 02.

Final thoughts

Whether you want a tire that delivers faster lap times or you just want a tire that offers high-end performance on your daily commute for your sports, luxury performance, or muscle car, Continental’s ExtremeContact Sport 02 is more than capable of fulfilling your driving needs. Starting at $150 per tire, a set of four ExtremeContact Sport 02 tires should cost at least $600 to install on your ride.
