In 2015, Continental released the ExtremeContact DWS06 as a true ultra-high-performance all-season tire for drivers of sports cars, luxury sports cars, luxury CUVs, and even daily drivers. After six years of success, awards, and accolades, Continental has raised the bar again with the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS which takes all the strengths from the DWS06 (and there’s a lot of them) and improves on its few weaknesses.

Benefits of the new and improved Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS

The ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS uses Continental’s next generation of innovation; SportPlus+ Technology. This new technology features specifically engineered blocks, edges, grooves, and sipes that allow for excellent traction and performance in dry, wet, and winter weather conditions. Put simply, the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS boasts that it performs at a high level regardless of the weather because it’s built to do so.

Quick view indicators to help keep drivers safely on the road

QuickView Indicators are a staple of Continental’s tires, and the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS is no different. This simple, yet incredibly helpful, technology is split into two different pieces that drivers can visually check in a matter of seconds.

The first is Tuned Performance Indicators in the form of D, W, and S lettering within the tread, which stands for Dry, Wet, and Snow. When one of these letters disappears, the tire is no longer optimized to perform in that condition.

Second is a built-in Alignment Verification System that looks like small rectangles on the shoulder of the tire. When a driver’s alignment is in check, all of the rectangles will be present and across from one another which shows that the tire is wearing evenly. Missing rectangles on the shoulders indicate that the tire is not wearing evenly, which means that the driver should schedule an alignment to get the most out of their purchase.

Covered under the Continental Total Confidence Plan

Another great feature for the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS is that it's covered under Continental’s Total Confidence Plan. This includes a 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for standard fitments, or a 25,000 mile limited warranty in rear staggered fitments, a 60 day Trial Period, 3 Years of Roadside Assistance (typically Flat Tire assistance), and Road Hazard Coverage for 12 months or the first 2/32” of the tire’s tread depth.

All of this is to show that Continental believes the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS is built to perform at a high level for a long time, and they’re willing to cover any unexpected deficiencies that might occur during the tire’s expected tread life.

But, what improvements does the DWS06 PLUS boast over the original?

We previously mentioned that the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS improved on the weaknesses of the DWS06, and manufacturers typically do that by testing the tires head-to-head in a variety of driving conditions.

Based on their testing, Continental found that the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS offers:

  • Up to 2% faster handling in wet and dry conditions
  • 9% shorter braking distances on wet roads, and 4% shorter on dry roads
  • 11% better traction, handling, and braking performance on snowy roads
  • 6% better traction, handling, and braking performance on icy roads
  • A quieter ride and longer tread life

Keep in mind, the ExtremeContact DWS06 was an award-winning tire that’s been on numerous Best Of lists, and the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS beat it in Dry and Wet traction, braking and handling, ice and snow performance, noise level, and tread life.

Who is the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS best suited for?

You might be wondering if the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS truly is for you, which is a fair concern. While this tire is targeted towards car enthusiasts, and owners of sports and luxury performance cars, CUVs, and SUVs, the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS is more than capable of being an excellent choice for daily drivers just like the DWS06.

Sedan, CUV and SUV Equipped with Continental DWS06+ Tires

Yes, the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS is a great choice for someone who drives a 2021 Chevrolet Corvette or an electric vehicle like the Tesla Model S because it can bring out so many of the great performance features of these cars, but the tire is also a great choice for someone who drives a Ford Expedition, Volkswagen Jetta or Toyota Camry and wants a tire that gives them excellent performance in dry, wet, and winter conditions while they have their loved ones in the car.

Price wise, the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS ranges from $120 to 310 per tire, which actually puts it below the cost of some other ultra-high-performance all-season. Simply put, you get an excellent tire at a slightly lower price than similar tires.
