Due to countless advancements and more than one hundred winter tire patents, the Nokian tires Hakkapeliitta and other winter tires have earned legendary status. The Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 Studded is a studded winter tire that is designed for use on passengers. These studded winter tires offer stronger traction in winter weather.

Nonetheless, is it the best tire for your car and your budget? Let’s take a look at a review of Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 studded to see if it is the right tire for you.

Features and Benefits

Choosing the proper tire is important when driving in the winter. Winter driving conditions can be very unexpected, from deep snowfall to black ice. Hakkapeliitta 9 Studded tires are specifically designed to handle the combination of cold weather, ice, and snow. Consider learning more about features and benefits of Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 Studded to help you choose the best winter tires.

  • Solid winter weather traction: A combination of the intricate directional tread pattern and the tough winter rubber compound allows it to function in harsh winter conditions. The high-density zigzag siping pattern and snow-gripping cuts on the intermediate tread blocks increase the number of biting edges that are grabbing the ice and snow-covered road surface. In cooler temperatures, the rubber's resilient composition maintains its suppleness improving winter weather traction.
  • Studded design: Hakkapeliitta 9 Studded tires feature a revolutionary double stud grip technology that provides excellent grip in bends and straight stretches. There is a distinct shoulder for the shoulder regions and a special customized stud for the tread's center. Many studs that work with natural efficiency during braking, accelerating, and cornering also ensure exceptional lateral grip on slippery and snowy surfaces.
  • Reduced risk of hydroplaning: Zigzag circumferential and angled lateral grooves help to avoid hydroplaning by distributing water and slush from beneath the footprint, thereby maintaining surface contact and improving winter driving performance.
  • Enhanced controllability: Together, the stronger construction and tread design improve controllability. To improve steering responsiveness, the tread's directional pattern closely matches the surface of the road. In addition to improving the steering response time and accuracy to the driver's directions, the tread's consistent road contact and perfect footprint increase the grip on the road surface.
  • Improved stability: Construction of the high-tensile steel belt improves driving stability. It protects the tire's structure from the driving pressure that the tire is subject to while the tires are moving, maximizing the driver's ability to steer the car at all times. Together, they guarantee reliable performance in any winter weather.
  • Fuel efficient performance: A unique environmentally friendly tire compound improves surface traction while releasing pressure from the tire during use. It thus greatly reduces the rolling resistance of the tire. The tire ensures a fuel-efficient and eco-friendly driving experience by reducing rolling resistance and lowering the vehicle's fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
  • High driving comfort levels: Stronger interior structure and optimal tread design reduce road noise and vibration. Robust internal construction maintains the tire’s close road contact while the tires are in motion. As a result, the tire absorbs the shock of driving, decreasing vibrations perceived in the vehicle's interior. This structure and tread design help to keep the tread elements stable and avoid flexing ensuring less road and tread pattern noise.

Pros and Cons

Is it therefore a decent winter tire for your vehicle? Let us first analyze its pros and cons before forming an opinion.

  • Winter tread pattern enhances winter weather traction
  • High-density zigzag siping pattern and snow gripping cuts to increase winter traction
  • Double stud grip provides extra traction
  • Zigzag circumferential and angled lateral grooves reduce the risk of hydroplaning
  • Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified to enhance harsh winter weather conditions
  • Studs are pinned to improve traction in extreme winter weather conditions
  • Computer optimized tread pattern ensures quiet drive
  • Better fuel efficiency and built using environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing processes

Despite having all of these features and advantages, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 Studded tires might be enhanced in a variety of ways, including:

  • These tires cannot be used all year round because the flexible rubber compositions soon deteriorate at temperatures that are consistently above 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • No mileage warranty
  • Possibly a little bit noisier than other winter tires
  • Cannot be used in all 50 States and select locations due to being pre-studded

SimpleTire’s view on Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 Studded tires

Great studded snow tires for my wife's small car. She is a nurse traveling country roads to town. The snow tires perform as though no slick spots exist. More traction than my 4x4 pickup in winter. Plows through deep snow and slush as well. We have some moderate road noise from the studs on dry pavement. Pleased with the performance and tread life.

I put these on my 2008 Ford Crown Victoria as it was handling the Maine driving conditions very poorly. They perform excellently in all wet conditions, wet, slush, snow, and ice. I gave them a four rating on noise but you cannot expect studded tires not to make some noise. I would use these again.

I live At a ski resort in the mountains of Colorado. These are by far the best snow tires I have ever had on my smaller SUV Porsche Macan. That has made a huge difference in the predictability and drivability of this car and winter conditions. It is awesome. Love the tires

Crazy awesome traction on ice and snow. Trade off is they are noisy. When it's-35 degrees outside I don't care about the noise, I just want to get there safely. No comprise on traction.
