Founded in 1960, Kumho Tire is based in South Korea and is a subsidiary of Chinese tire company Doublestar. With a North American headquarters in Atlanta, GA, Kumho has been manufacturing all types of tires like all-season, all-terrain, and winter tires to be used in coupes, sedans, CUVs, SUVs, light trucks, minivans, and commercial trucks. Additionally Kumho is a Platinum Partner for Manchester United Football Club while also being the official tire of the NBA.

Ultra-high-performance tires are fitted to performance cars, and they deliver a sporty, smoother ride plus enhanced steering precision and cornering stability. The Kumho Ecsta PA31 is known to deliver improved vehicle traction, cornering potential, and dissipation of heat.

But is this the right tire for you and your ride? Let’s take a look at this Kumho Ecsta PA31 review.

    Features and Benefits

The Ecsta PA31 is Kumho's high-performance, all-season tire that's designed for use on mid-level sports coupes and sedans and offers solid performance on wet and dry roads along with a 50,000-mile tread life warranty. The tire features specially designed tread compounds that ensure quick steering response, and outboard shoulders that maintain consistent cornering traction. Additionally, wide circumferential grooves, multiple sipes, and systematically placed lateral notches help aid in hydroplaning resistance during wet conditions. Let’s take a look at the Kumho Ecsta PA31 tire review to help understand all its features and benefits at a glance:

    • Great performance: The tire is designed with heavy sipe density and large cross grooves that aid in expelling water quickly, thus improving snow and wet weather handling helping the Ecsta PA31 deliver great performance.
    • Enhanced traction: The directional tread design is shaped to avoid uneven wear and delivers enhanced steering, cornering, and braking in all-season conditions.
    • Optimized steering response: The tire's innovative casing is focused on increasing sidewall stability and responsiveness.
    • Reduced noise: The variable pitch shoulder blocks reduce road noise throughout the life of the tire for a quieter, more comfortable ride.
    • High-speed capabilities: The Kumho Ecsta PA31 has two nylon reinforcement plies that further improve vehicle handling while, also, maintaining high speed.

The wheel size ranges from 15-inch to 18-inch, which makes it an ideal choice for a wide range of vehicles on roads today. Additionally, the tire is backed by Kumho's 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty.

    Pros and Cons

Before deciding to buy the Kumho Ecsta PA31 or not, let’s first drill down a few factors that can help you decide whether or not the tire is right for you.

    • Low noise when driving on the highway
    • Solid wet and dry traction
    • Great steering response
    • Comfortable ride for a low-profile tire
    • 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty

While Kumho makes a good claim about the Ecsta PA31’s performance, some shortcomings may divide opinions.

    • Not the best in moderate to heavy snow conditions
    • The ride is firmer than its closest premium competitors
    • Slightly more expensive when compared to standard options

SimpleTire’s view on Kumho Ecsta PA31 tires

As an ultra-high-performance tire that's designed for use on sports cars and performance-oriented coupes and sedans year-round, Kumho's Ecsta PA31 delivers its drivers better cornering and handling grip performance at higher speeds, thanks to its outside groove wall design. Additionally, the specially designed tread compound gives ultimate grip, and the widest grooves in the tire channel out water for traction plus multiple sipes help the Ecsta PA31 for improved handling in wet and snowy weather, while the tire's shoulder blocks reduce road noise. You will be happy with your purchase but in case you are looking for excellent traction and a run-flat technology, you can consider Yokohama Advan Sport ZPS, though the tire cannot be used year-round.

The Kumho PA31 replaced some Toyo Extensa HP tires on a Corolla FX16 GT-S set-up for autocross. These are strickly street tires as I run 200 treadwear tires when racing. The Kumho's are WAY better than the Toyo's. The Kumho's stick much better, the Toyo's were always a little greasy at turn-in. The Kumho's seem stiffer with the same air pressure. They inspire more confidence is turns. Ride quality for both is similar. The Kumho's are also better in the wet too! The Toyo's were made in Malaysia. The Kumho's in Vietnam. Both sets were purchased from SimpleTire along with tires for other cars. Always have top notch service from SimpleTire.

Bought these Kumho's to replace Toyo Extensa HP's. They are on an '87 Corolla FX16. The Kumho's were sticky right away. They was no greasy feel like the Toyo's (which never went away). The sidewall tread has a curve which is more conducive to handling, which I like. I was surprised how well these tires handled. I'm quite pleased! I typically run 200 treadwear tires on this car. However, it is parked outside and I need something that is resistant to freezing temperatures. The car is not a daily driver, but is prepped for autocross so it doesn't get a lot of street miles.

No problem so far. Very affordable price and runs with absolutely no issue 1 year long. I definately will consider to buy next tire with this Kumho brand as well.

I've had these tires for almost a year on my 1991 Firebird, and I would very highly recommend them to anyone looking to purchase a substantial tire for their car. I only drive this car in the summer, so I couldn't tell you how they'd perform in the winter, but driving in wet and dry conditions have yet to be any problem at all for these Ecstas.
