Toyota Echo Tires
Introduced in 1999, Toyota’s Echo (aka Yaris) is a subcompact hatchback that replaced the Tercel in their lineup. The subcompact Echo/Yaris replaced the ubiquitous Tercel in the late 90s. The Yaris replaced the Scion brand in the late 2000s and is available as a five-door hatchback and sedan model. While the Echo/Yaris is perceived as an economy Toyota, it’s also available in performance trim in the form of the GR Echo. Fun and practical, the Echo offers the kind of solid dependability, design, and build quality Toyota drivers have come to expect. Latter-day versions of the Yaris are available with 4WD, a hybrid drivetrain, and a 5-door body style, while the GR Echo can be had with a 3-door hot-hatch configuration.
Here at SimpleTire, we compiled a list of some of the best Toyota Echo tires, including all-season, all-weather, and ultra-high-performance tire choices, using SimpleScore. So, without further ado, let’s get to it:
1. General Altimax RT45 - Best All-Season Tire
Let’s kick this list off with the Altimax RT45 from General Tire. Don’t let the lower price point of the General Altimax RT45 fool you; this is a tire that offers sharp performance and great value. It’s an excellent choice in all kinds of weather conditions thanks to a tested all-season tread design, and General Tire covers Altimax RT45 with either a 65,000 or 75,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty (depending on tire size). We did the calculations and gave the Altimax RT45 an outstanding SimpleScore of 9.9 for longevity. You can rely on the Altimax RT45 to deliver year-round traction, a compliant ride, low noise, and solid, consistent handling and braking performance (SimpleScore for traction: 9.0). With a network of sipes and lateral grooves and a solid center rib that’s designed for improved road manners and steering response, we give the Altimax RT45 a SimpleScore of 8.7 for handling. Another innovation with General tires is the visual alignment indicators that give drivers a heads-up to wheel alignment that’s out of spec, and the words “Replace Tire” molded into the tread to display when the tread depth reaches a minimum of 2/32, the minimum tread depth allowable in most states. Select sizes of the Altimax RT45 are available with a great-looking outlined white letter sidewall.
2. Toyo Celsius II - Best All-Weather Tire
All-weather tires are a more recent category in the tire world; in short, they’re like an all-season tire that’s designed with features that can enhance winter performance, so they more or less are a happy medium between all-season and dedicated winter tires. The Toyo Celsius II is an excellent example of an all-weather tire, with the ride comfort, handling, and low noise of a Grand Touring tire, along with a significant improvement in grip and performance in wet or wintry conditions. Sure enough, the Toyo Celsius II is Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified for severe winter conditions, with a silica-rich tread formulation that’s designed for excellent wear properties as well as improved traction in wet or wintry conditions. The Celsius II’s asymmetric tread incorporates large, solid tread blocks and a dense pattern of multi-wave sipes that multiply surface area and traction with hundreds of extra hair-thin edges to chew through snow and slush for a SimpleScore of 8.5 for traction. That tread pattern and a high-stiffness polyester casing with two steel belts, a jointless nylon cap ply, and a stiff shoulder all add up to cornering, braking, steering response, and high-speed stability that are first-rate for a SimpleScore of 8.6 for handling. All those features also contribute to our SimpleScore of 9.6 for longevity (and for a Toyo limited manufacturer tread life warranty of 60,000 miles).
3. Nexen N’Priz AH8 - Best All-Season Performance Tire
The Nexen N’Priz AH8 is an all-season tire that’s designed for sharp performance and comes in at an affordable price point, making it an excellent pick for a Toyota Echo. Nexen covers the N’Priz AH8 with a 70,000 mile manufacturer’s treadwear warranty, with its wear-resistant silica-enhanced rubber formulation and extra tread depth – which is enough for us to give the N’Priz AH8 a SimpleScore of 9.6 for longevity. That extra tread depth, along with an all-season tread design and dense network of sipes, rates a SimpleScore of 8.4 for traction. Stable internal construction, the stickier silica-rich tread formulation, and tread design also all help to deliver excellent cornering, braking, road manners, and steering response. For such immediate, precise handling, we noted a SimpleScore of 8.8.
While these are the best Toyota Echo tires on the market today, plenty of other options are available. Here are a few more that you might want to consider:
4. Yokohama Avid Ascend GT - Great All-Season Tire
For year-round grip, excellent handling properties, and a refined ride, the Yokohama Avid Ascend GT is another superb choice. Yokohama’s Tri-Blend Compound Technology is designed with a low-tG polymer and high silica content for excellent wet-weather traction and wear characteristics, warranting a 65,000 mile tread life warranty – which is why we decided on a SimpleScore of 8.5 for longevity. All-season traction comes from an asymmetric tread pattern that consists of notched tread blocks, 3D sipes, and a stable contact patch, all adding up to a SimpleScore of 8.6 for traction. We’re also impressed by this tire's steering response, road manners, and cornering, with a stiff shoulder and tread area that resists deformation and tread squirm, for a SimpleScore of 8.7 for handling. The Avid Ascend GT is part of Yokohama’s BluEarth series of tires, which means the tire is designed around environmental sustainability principles and technology.
5. Arroyo EcoPro A/S - Good All-Season Tire
Let’s wrap this list up with the Arroyo EcoPro A/S, a budget-priced all-season tire that outperforms its price point. Thanks to a durable tread compound, deep tread depth, and stable internal design, the EcoPro A/S is backed by a 55,000 mile limited manufacturer’s warranty, enough for us to note a SimpleScore of 7.3 for traction. The Arroyo EcoPro A/S is designed with circumferential grooves that sweep water away from the tire’s contact patch to resist hydroplaning and a dense sipe pattern with varied sipe sizes for a SimpleScore of 7.3 for traction. The optimized contact patch and stiffer shoulder deliver responsive, immediate cornering, braking, and steering performance for a SimpleScore of 8.2 for handling.
