Founded in 1988, Nokian Tires is based in Nokia, Finland. They take pride in being the only tire company in the world to have a dedicated winter tire testing facility of its own. They have been manufacturing all-season, all-terrain, UHP tires, and mud-terrain while delivering quality and performance that is needed with the changing times.

The Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 is another winter tire that delivers confident control and handling. The Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certification makes it an ideal tire to perform in severe snow conditions. But is the Hakkapeliitta 9 the right tire for you? Let’s take a look at this Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 review.

    Features and Benefits

Areas with extreme winter conditions witness heavy ice, slush, and snow throughout the year and if you live in an area like this you must opt for a winter tire as they have a deeper tread depth that allows a firm grip keeping your wheel closer to the road while driving on snow and ice. These tires are engineered to perform in extreme temperatures during colder months, plus they are a bit more durable and better on those wet roads than an all-season tire.

This tire offers strong traction and performance in wet and dry conditions, plus better performance in winter weather, additionally they use flexible rubber compounds that help the tire to grip better on cold, icy, snowy, or slushy roads. Let’s take a look at the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 tire review to help understand all its features and benefits at a glance:

    • Strong traction: Multiple cuts on middle tread blocks, adding sharp edges that grip with the help of Snow Grip Booster technology aids in increased traction.
    • Improved tread wear: This tire is built with Green Elasto Proof tread compound for longer tread life and improved wear throughout the tire’s limited mileage warranty period.
    • Lower fuel consumption: Special High Tensile Steel structure improves fuel efficiency provides low rolling resistance and saves fuel cost and consumption.
    • Optimized steering response: The 3D self-locking sipes offers confident vehicle handling, stable cornering, and braking.
    • Reduced hydroplaning: Nokian directional tread design and Triple 3D sipes quickly channel water away for a wet grip and resist hydroplaning to provide excellent balance and traction on slippery/icy roads.
    • Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified: The Hakkapeliitta 9 comes with enhanced performance ability to perform in severe snow conditions thanks to its Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certification.

The wheel size ranges from 14-inch to 20-inch, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of road vehicles today.

    Pros and Cons

SimpleTire’s view on Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 tires

Nokian produces passenger, SUV, light truck, and van tires, and the Hakkapeliitta line is the most recognized tire line of the Finnish tire maker. Hakkapeliitta 9 gives you aggressive shoulder grooves for a strong grip in deep snow. Large sipes on the tire's sides and shoulder blocks improve grip on snowy roads, and the Hakkapeliitta 9's patented stud shapes optimize acceleration, braking, and cornering performance. Additionally, directional tread design and wide slanting grooves prevent hydroplaning.

Although the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 is a great choice for winter tires, it gives you superior performance and complete value for money.

These tires are amazing in the snow and ice! I have not had them long enough to know about tread life. They are loud but I will take loud for safety!

These ratings apply to STUDDED Hakkapeliitta 9s, they are not meant for dry pavement. If you want the studs to stay in, keep them on the snow and ice. The studs are super loud on dry pavement. I use them for Ice Racing on frozen lakes and snow rallies on closed courses. The grip is amazing! We pushed the limits of the tires doing 60-70mph on ice, taking corners at 20-40mph and the grip was reliable and predictable. As the tires age they don't keep the studs in very well, after a few seasons we are left with good tread but only 60% of the studs left, but this is in racing conditions. If you can't change back to non-studded tires when the snow melts you should get the non-studded Hakka 9s.

I haven't had much time with these tires yet. But wow black ice, no snow, they where amazing stopping and going. 1700 pound car. Turning I'm not sure I slowed down because all the roads where ice and I didn't want to go off the road. I was also going the speed limit witch was 50 to 55 that night. Roads I literally couldn't stand on because it was slopped and all ice. Turning I would slow down to 45 and they felt like they could handle faster. I'm not a aggressive driver. Snow and ice. I only seen for a short distance handled better then any tire I seen. Slipped a little bit from 30 mph to moderate breaking pressure. I'll have to update after I had more use. So far I deffently wouldn't be looking at another tire

These studded winter tires cannot be beat! Live in rural Vermont where weather changes quickly and often gets scary and icy. As well as climbing up to the ski resorts during ice storms or extremely low wind chills and temps, wouldn't want to go anywhere without my hakka 9

Best snowtire ever. Blizzaks come in 2nd for 3 reasons: 1. Treadlife. Blizzaks wear out sooooo quickly. 2. studs cannot be beaten for stopping and grip

amazing ice grip! installed on jetta sedan w/ tuned sporty engine and suspension prior to winter ski road trip in Colo, Wy, Canada. Replaced 1 season old general /conti studded altimax 1/2 worn, started to need attention on slick and ice, the new hakka 9s excell on slippery and ice, virtual no ABS effect on smooth hockeyrink icy glazed conditions, 300% better than the studded generals. deep and packed snow traction are excellent. dry road traction/handling ok, noise moderate, up to 85mph, both typical of good winter studded tires. salted slushy brown snow during blizzards on teton pass were a bit better than the generals, but not perfect, "slushplaning" acceptable, not great. pricey, but worth it if you need ice traction
