  • Maxxis AT-771 Bravo Series

In case you haven’t noticed already, there are a lot of pickup trucks and SUVs on the road. A lot of those trucks and SUVs are equipped with four-wheeld-rive, making all-terrain tires a preferred choice. All-terrain tires can deliver excellent traction and durability off-road, but they also need to be civilized on the highway. That means good road manners and stability at highway speed, tolerable noise levels, a forgiving ride, long treadwear, and predictable handling.

That may sound like a difficult target to hit, but the Maxxis AT-771 Bravo Series is right on the nose. It’s a tire that can get you where you need to go and back again off the pavement, while offering surprisingly refined performance on a city street or an interstate. Maxxis might not be the first name that comes to mind when it comes to premium tires, but it’s by no means a low-quality tire and the AT-771 Bravo Series is proof.

So what makes the tire so great and such a standout? Let’s dig a little deeper in this Maxxis AT-771 Bravo Series review.

    Features and Benefits

The Maxxis AT-771 Bravo Series offers a set of features and benefits that exceeds expectations for its price point:

    • Backed by a 50,000 mile manufactured tread life warranty
    • Four deep, U-shaped circumferential grooves divert water from the tire’s contact patch to resist hydroplaning, while ejecting stones and debris for great traction and protection for the casing
    • Wave sipe pattern boosts traction in wet or snowy conditions
    • Multi-pitch tread design is computer-tuned to help keep road noise low while maintaining great grip and overall performance offroad
    • Aggressive tread pattern with 3D tread blocks for enhanced durability, stability and long wear
    • Tread pattern and dense network of sipes enhances traction and control in wet or wintry conditions
    • Staggered shoulder lugs boost lateral traction for good cornering ability and for clawing out of ruts or mud offroad
    • Twin steel belts with jointless nylon cap ply layer for durability and ride quality
    • Casing is stiff enough for great handling and durability while still conforming to rocks and obstacles offroad
    • Tread formulation engineered for long wear, traction and damage resistance
    • Great-looking outlined white letter sidewall
    • M+S rating for mud and snow traction

    Pros and Cons

The Maxxis AT-771 is a tire that punches way above its weight class in a number of aspects:

    PROS:

    • Generous tread life warranty
    • Durable construction
    • Surprisingly comfortable ride on pavement
    • Dependable traction off-road

    CONS:

    • Traction in heavier snow could be better
    • A little loud at highway speed

SimpleTire’s view on Maxxis AT-771 Bravo Series tires

There are plenty of choices out there when it comes to all-terrain tires for light trucks, Jeeps, and SUVs. Some do really well on the pavement but fall down on the job offroad, others can get through mud, sand and other difficult off-road conditions with ease but end up being pretty beastly on the highway.

The Maxxis AT-771 Bravo Series checks the boxes you want to see checked, with strong performance and durability off the pavement but a pleasantly surprising personality on the road. Even on long trips on the interstate, this is a tire that won’t fatigue you with high noise levels and a punishing ride. That’s all with a generous treadwear warranty phase and an outlined white letter sidewall that looks great on all kinds of trucks, Jeeps and SUVs. If you’re looking at the pricier all-terrain tires from the older, more familiar brands, you’d be smart to pause and consider the Maxxis AT-771 Bravo Series.

Vehicles the Maxxis AT-771 Bravo Series is a good replacement tire for

While not used as original equipment, the AT-771 Bravo Series is a great option for many replacement vehicles. If you drive a Chevrolet Suburban, Dodge Durango, Ford F-250, GMC Yukon, Jeep Wrangler, Nissan Titan, RAM 1500, or Toyota Land Cruiser, then this is a tire that you might want to consider.

As far as the above ratings go, I am not the best source of information; however, these tires seem to "last" better than the Coopers, the Goodyears, and the Uniroyals that I have had. All of the aforementioned brands have thrown off the treads and blown out the sidewalls - all of them. These Chinese made Maxiis seem superior, and I suspect that this comes, in part, from the fact that they have "three ply sidewalls" whereas all of the others only have the conventional two ply sidewalls. Some Coopers have three ply sidewalls - but - they only come with mud and snow tread (noisy), and thereafter Sugimoto Rubber Co. has three ply sidewalls, but they are no longer imported. These Maxiis were and experiment, and so far I am pleased.
