GT Radial is one of the fastest growing tire manufacturers in the world. A member of the Giti Tire family, GT Radial built its first North American facility called Giti USA Manufacturing in June 2014 despite being in the market for more than 25 years. After participating in drift races for a few years, drivers approached GT Radial in search of a tire that captured the true spirit of Formula DRIFT. From there, engineers spoke with drivers to learn about their top priorities before commencing the development process, which included the desire for a tire that could be "tossed," had excellent "feel," exhibited progressive breakaway behavior and recovery, and displayed tremendous grip for them to speed out of bends and generate forward impetus.

Enter the GT Radial Champiro SX2, which was built and produced in South Carolina, and was used in Formula DRIFT for the first time in 2018. Among the top 12 drivers, six were GT Radial drivers who used the Champiro SX2. In other words, the Champiro SX2 is about a tire with a high grip compound and aggressive tread design that make it desirable for track and road use. Handling is very predictable, with you knowing exactly when the car is going to understeer or oversteer.

    Features and Benefits

Considering that they are summer tires, Champiro SX2 tires are already expected to exhibit superior dry performance, but their outstanding wet performance may just take you by surprise. Though hard to remove, these tires hold up well even when it rains. The GT Radial Champiro SX2 rating becomes high as you gain tremendous confidence in pushing your car, benefiting from the highly responsive steering.

The following features and benefits in the GT Radial Champiro SX2 tire review would be beneficial for you to understand the tire’s capabilities:

    • Extra large shoulder blocks for enhanced grip and cornering stability
    • Asymmetric tread pattern for optimal performance on the street and track
    • Wide center rib for superior handling
    • Quieter and more stable than some competitor tires
    • Great feedback while driving at higher speeds

    Pros and Cons

No tire is perfect, and that’s true for the Champiro SX2. Here are some of the tire’s main strengths and weaknesses.

    Pros

    • A combination of effective functioning and a stylish, athletic appearance
    • Generates less heat in central tread ribs to fend off uneven wear
    • Strong traction in dry and wet conditions
    • Top-class braking performance and traction
    • Highly durable

    Cons

    • Not suitable for winter
    • Can be noisy on the highway

SimpleTire’s view on GT Radial Champiro SX2 tires

When one considers all the specifications for motorsport tires, especially emergency maneuvering, they are virtually the same for the street tire. The tire's response at that point must be precise and gripping for cornering as well as for braking or accelerating to prevent a collision. To perform its function, the street tire must be strong and resilient enough to support the load, endure different climatic conditions, and operate in extremely hot and stressful settings. Our GT Radial Champiro SX2 review process has shown the tire to be capable of handling the above situations with aplomb.

Vehicles the GT Radial Champiro SX2 is a good replacement tire for

While not used as original equipment on any vehicle, the Champiro SX2 is a great choice for race and performance-oriented vehicles. If you drive a Lotus Espirit S4s, Lotus Espirit V8, BMW M3, Honda S2000, Ford Focus RS, Nissan 350Z, or Mazda MX-5 Miata, then the Champiro SX2 needs to be a tire you consider for your ride.

I have a 2013 Subaru BRZ, and these tires grip like crazy. I do regular to spirited driving, no track use and they've held up very well so far. Dry performance is perfect which is expected with them being summer tires, but I was particularly impressed with their wet performance. It's difficult to break these tires loose in general, but even in the rain they hold up great. Steering response feels responsive and I feel very confident pushing my car. On top of performing well, they aesthetically look nice and sporty. I highly recommend these tires for their price, and Simple Tire was a pleasure to work with and they shipped these out nice and quick.

Beware! Although listed as a 200 treadwear tire, it depends on the size you buy. For example, the 225/45/17 size I bought is actually a 260 treadwear tire. This is the reason you see so may positive reviews on treadwear relative to other track/street tires. They definitely did not provide the level of grip I was looking for since I was expecting a UTQG 200 tire. That said, other than being a bit slow on the track, they are a reasonable value for the price. The low comfort/noise ratings are in line with this type of tire given the stiff sidewalls and tread pattern

These tires grabbed a lot of attention from other car enthusiasts mentioning how they look beefy and sick. Took it to Angel's Crest, California January 22nd, 2021 they did great in my opinion against 3 types of terrain when taking on the mountain with it being cold and some parts of the road having ice. Overall they felt better than Toyo Proxes Sport and quieter than Federals RSRR tires. I would highly recommend these tires

Good budget performance tire. Plenty of grip for the street. Not very fast compared to current track tires, but consistent and relatively durable. Not loud or harsh at all for a track tire. Seems like the tread would be decent in the wet as well but I have not experienced it in the wet.

Purchased 4 tires for a 2003 BMW 325ci. The car is lowered and modded for a daily driver/ track car. The tires handle amazing in the dry. I would place them in ranking close to pilot sport 4. For the price you can't go wrong if you're looking for a solid summer tire. Wet grip is good but allows some slippage under heavy acceleration( to be expected) I haven't had any under steer in wet conditions. I did drive in slush/ snow after a late season snow fall and they did not handle very well. Braking was ok in the slush but I would spin tires if anything but moderate throttle was applied. Overall I will be purchasing this tire again when the time comes.

Very good traction, but the sidewall flexes more than I wan't, however, the flex helps it not be rough riding. Very wide grooves make very well behaved in the wet. Price is very low for this much quality, probably because the lack of name recognition. I used them for road racing on a 5.5" wide rim.

Great tire for rain or shine with great grip throughout. I run it on my frs for aggressive street driving. Rides very smooth and quiet. 100 recommend these. Haven't used in winter as I live in florida. And it's a more grippier tire so it won't last as long as a all season tire
