Of course, there are light trucks, and SUVs everywhere on the roads these days; these are the vehicles that have largely taken over daily driver, and family vehicle roles that used to be filled by sedans, and minivans (and station wagons, generations ago). Many of those trucks and SUVs are equipped with 4WD drivetrains, and to get the most out of a 4WD vehicle’s performance potential in difficult terrain and challenging off-road conditions, all-terrain tires are the way to go.
As trucks and SUVs have become more sophisticated and refined, all-terrain tires have had to evolve along with them. While all-terrain tires from a generation ago tended to be noisy and rough with clumsy handling on pavement, the best all-terrain tires now offer a great balance of durability, and traction in tough off-road environments along with a quiet and comfortable ride with stable road manners, and capable handling on the highway.
Today we’re going to look at the Wrangler Territory AT from Goodyear. The Goodyear Wrangler tire family has been around for decades, and the Wrangler Territory AT builds on those years of experience and innovation with all-terrain tires with a whole new set of performance-building upgrades.
Are you familiar with SimpleTire’s SimpleScore system? SimpleScore is the rating method that our team devised to give you a quick at-a-glance idea of a tire’s strengths, and weaknesses. We go through and look at technical details, the tire’s specs, manufacturer info, customer reviews, and other data points, and then we distill that all down to a 1-10 numerical score for the categories of traction, handling, and longevity, as well as an overall average SimpleScore. For the Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT, the SimpleScore numbers look like this:
Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT
- Traction: 8.3
- Handling: 8.3
- Longevity: 8.2
- Overall average SimpleScore: 8.2
As you can see, that’s a pretty impressive set of numbers for anything that’s graded on a 1-10 scale. As handy as SimpleScore is, though, it’s still the 30,000 foot view that doesn’t give you the full details of a tire’s pluses and minuses. Let’s go in and get a closer look at this Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT tire review:
Features and Benefits
Here are some of the great design features, and innovations that make the Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT an excellent value, and a strong performer:
- All-terrain tread design with large tread blocks, and a system of angled circumferential grooves for dependable grip on or off the pavement
- Circumferential grooves efficiently route water away from the tire’s contact patch to resist hydroplaning on wet roads
- Tough rubber formulation is designed for long wear, great traction on wet or dry pavement, resistance to cuts, punctures, abrasions
- Continuous angled center rib gives the Wrangler Territory AT great straight-line stability on the highway, quick and accurate steering response
- Reinforced shoulder stands up to rough conditions while delivering sharp, crisp handling, and cornering
- A dense network of sipes multiplies traction with hundreds of extra hair-thin biting edges
- Tread pitch is computer-tuned to neutralize certain frequencies, and overtones to keep road noise to a minimum
- Initial tread depth of 12/32” for long wear, confident grip
- Wide void ratio and grooves enable good self-cleaning of mud and debris so there’s always a clear section of the tread to dig in as the wheel turns, preventing wheelspin in mud
Pros and Cons
PROS:
- Quiet, and composed ride on the highway with good ride comfort
- Low noise on most pavement surfaces
- Handling and road manners are capable and confident
- Excellent grip in off-road conditions
CONS:
- Not 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake certified for severe winter service
- Can be noisier on some pavement surfaces
- No limited manufacturer’s tread life warranty
- Not good in heavier mud and rougher, rocky terrain such as rock crawling
SimpleTire’s view on Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT tires
Off the pavement, the Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT excels. That deep tread depth, wide void ratio, and chunky, aggressive all-terrain tread blocks give this tire the reliable, consistent grip and control you need on all kinds of surfaces as well as quickly shedding mud, and debris from the tread grooves. On the pavement, the Goodyear puts on a different hat, with cornering that’s predictable and a steering response that’s fairly light and accurate, if maybe not as nimble and quick as what you’d expect from an automotive performance tire. Noise levels are tolerable, although Goodyear does tend to hum and drone on some pavement surfaces. Ride quality and road manners are firm but controlled, and the Goodyear doesn’t get jittery and lose its composure on rough, broken segments of pavement.
Indeed, Goodyear doesn’t come with a limited manufacturer’s tread life warranty, but Goodyear does cover it with their Replacement Limited Warranty plan, which is pretty comprehensive in its coverage. All in all, it’s our take here at the SimpleTire team that the Goodyear Wrangler AT is an excellent value in a premium all-terrain tire; it’s designed for durability and versatility, is loaded with next-generation features, and is more than capable of getting the job done on or off the road.

I haven't used these tires in the snow yet BUT I have driven them in the mountains of Northern Pennsylvania. Tires are quiet, comfy and the price point was good too. I would recommend.
Gave these tires a 4 in the winter section because I live where we don't get much snow but the little bit I got to test in they did very well. I didn't pay attention to how many miles I had when I installed these tires but I have put anywhere between 50-60k on them and they still have enough tread to get at least another 10k. They are very comfortable and very quiet. Everything an A/T tire should be.
