  • Goodyear Eagle RS-A2

Goodyear is one of the most respected tire manufacturers in the world, and the Eagle family of tires has long been one of their most popular lines. And for good reason; over the years, the Goodyear Eagle family of tires has been a go-to choice for their dependable performance, innovation, workmanship, quality and value. Goodyear’s Eagle line of tires draws design inspiration from Goodyear’s decades of experience in the motorsports world, with tires that provide premium sport performance and durability so that you can get the most out of your drive (even if you drive a plain-vanilla sedan, coupe, minivan or crossover).

Today we’re going to take a look at the [Eagle RS-A2](https://simpletire.com/brands/goodyear-tires/eagle-rs-a2, a premium all-season tire that’s designed for top levels of performance in all kinds of weather conditions. Versatile and packed with innovations, the Eagle RS-A2 is a great pick for a wide range of sedans, coupes, minivans and crossovers. It’s a tire that’s designed for consistent performance and high-end outcomes, and is equally at home doing some spirited driving on a winding hill country road, on a sedate Interstate drive or on a commute back and forth to work. Let’s go in for a closer look and see what this tire has to offer with this Goodyear Eagle RS-A2 tire review:

    Features and Benefits

Here are some of the design features and innovations that make the Eagle RS-A2 from Goodyear a strong performer and a great value:

    • Asymmetric all-season tread with wide circumferential grooves that resist hydroplaning on wet roads by efficiently routing water away from the tire’s contact patch
    • Rim protector flange molded into sidewall to guard tire and wheels against scuffs and curb damage
    • Wide, reinforced shoulder block help to deliver confident cornering ability by resisting tread squirm and deformation during hard maneuvers
    • Specialized rubber compound is designed for long wear and dependable traction across a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions
    • Continuous center rib helps provide solid straight-line road manners and stability as well as quick, nimble steering response
    • Asymmetric tread is designed for dry-weather traction on the inboard side while the outboard side is optimized for wet-weather grip
    • Network of strategically placed sipes helps multiply the tread’s surface area and traction with hundreds of hair-thin biting edges to slice through snow, slush, water
    • Tread pitch is randomized and computer tuned to reduce road noise by canceling certain frequencies and overtones
    • Innovative serrated angled grooves on one outboard rib help to improve wet-weather performance
    • Speed rating Y (186 mph)
    • Internal construction includes a polyester casing and twin steel belts with a spiral wound nylon cap layer for stability and ride comfort

    Pros and Cons

The Goodyear Eagle RS-A2 is an all-season tire where the Pros definitely outweigh the Cons:

    PROS:

    • Innovative all-season tread design delivers confident grip in wet or dry weather
    • Long-wearing tread formulation
    • Ride quality, noise levels and road manners for highway driving are all excellent
    • Crisp handling and quick, responsive steering

    CONS:

    • No limited manufacturer’s tread life warranty
    • Not good in heavier snow and winter conditions

    Goodyear Eagle RS-A2

Are you acquainted with SimpleScore? SimpleScore is SimpleTire’s ratings system that our team devised to give you a quick at-a-glance idea of any tire’s strengths and weaknesses. We look at the tire’s technical details, the spec sheet, manufacturer info, customer reviews and other data points, then we process all that info down to a 1-10 numerical value for the categories of traction, handling and longevity, along with an overall average SimpleScore number for the tire. For the Goodyear Eagle RS-A2, the SimpleScore looks like this:

    Goodyear Eagle RS-A2:

    • Traction: 9.1
    • Handling: 9.1
    • Longevity: 8.0
    • Overall average SimpleScore: 8.5

Those strong SimpleScore numbers for traction and handling tell a lot of the story by themselves; the solid center rib of the Eagle RS-A2 helps to ensure steering response that’s light and immediate without ever being touchy or overly sensitive, along with stable straight-line tracking on the highway. The innovative all-season tread is divided into separate segments for wet-weather and dry-weather grip, and the large, reinforced tread blocks help to enhance cornering ability by adding rigidity to the tread’s shoulder and face. Cornering and handling might not quite be up to what you’d expect from an ultra-high-performance tire, but it’s strong enough to make the Eagle RS-A2 a great fit for sports sedans and sporty crossovers. Even when you crowd this tire hard going into a corner or on an interstate offramp, there’s little tendency toward understeer; on a powerful RWD car, it’s possible to kick the rear end out or even drift a little by hitting the throttle, but it comes back into line and corrects itself again quickly.

Ride quality is forgiving with the RS-A2; it can get a little firm at times on some irregular pavement surfaces, but the Eagle RS-A2 never loses its composure on rough roads. The tread pattern and pitch of the Eagle is tuned for low noise on the highway, and it’s quiet on just about all pavement surfaces. Note that the Eagle RS-A2 does lose some points on longevity; it’s not covered from the factory with a limited manufacturer’s tread life warranty, but its tread formulation is designed for great wear properties as well as confident traction.

All in all, it’s our take here at the SimpleTire team that the Goodyear Eagle RS-A2 would make an excellent choice as a replacement tire for performance-oriented sedans and crossovers; it’s designed around the torque, power, weight, center of gravity and overall driving dynamics of these vehicles and is more than capable of getting the job done.

These specific Goodyear Eagles are GREAT for any Challenger/300C/Charger models too. I have them on my 300C hemi and they provide great performance, while having a quiet ride. Great for heavy horsepower sedans that require some sporty steering response, these tires do just that on my 4,600 lb 300C . 100% recommend.

These are inexpensive tires but they work very well compared to what you pay for them. I have them on my Tesla as they are the OEM tires, and i consistently get 30K out of them. These are my 3rd set on my Tesla. The last 5K of that life is fairly noisy however. Overall very satisfied
