When it comes to all-season tires, the competition is pretty fierce. There are a lot of all-season tires that are pretty competent when it comes to wet roads or dry conditions, but the truth is they just can’t quite get the job done when it’s wintertime.
That’s where the Firestone Weathergrip is a standout. The Weathergrip is engineered to deliver real traction and performance, even when there’s a few inches of snow or slush to deal with, making it a true all-weather tire. It’s loaded with next-generation features that will get you through with true year-round traction, as well as delivering a quiet, comfortable ride, long treadwear, consistent handling and braking, and an all-around great value.
But is it the right tire for you and your ride? Let’s take a look in this Firestone Weathergrip review.
Features and Benefits
All-weather tires combine the best of all-season and winter tires for true year-round performance. Because of this combination, these tires need to feature certain elements that allow for better winter performance without sacrificing dry and wet capabilities. Here’s what Weathergrip has to enhance year-round traction:
- “Hydro-grip” package is designed for traction in rain, snow, and slush, and includes deep tread grooves and full-depth 3D siping for hundreds of extra biting edges
- Snow Traction Claw technology on center and shoulder blocks for grip in snow and slush
- Snow vices on intermediate ribs for extra grip
- Tread formulation is engineered to stay flexible at subfreezing temperatures for year-round traction
- Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified for use in moderate to severe winter weather
- Open shoulder slots boost water evacuation from tire footprint to avoid hydroplaning
- Tread pitch is computer tuned to keep road noise low
Backed by a 65,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty, the Firestone Weathgrip is available in a wide range of sizes for use on various vehicles.
Pros and Cons
Like most Firestone tires, the Weathergrip has more pros than cons.
PROS:
- Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified
- 65,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty
- True year-round performance
- Forgiving ride quality
CONS:
- A little noisier than some all-season or touring tires
- Some drivers may find the softer tread compound to be less responsive on dry roads

For drivers who live in areas that see a lot of snow, winter tires have long been the go-to solution. That may be a thing of the past with the Firestone Weathergrip. Unless you live in a place that gets hit with several feet of snow at one go (when, let’s face it, not many tires will help you get around), the Weathergrip is a tire that can definitely get the job done for you. This is a tire that delivers real performance in tough conditions, earning it the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rating, along with a 65,000 mile limited warranty and an affordable price point. Firestone has a reputation for innovative, top-quality tires, and the Weathergrip certainly checks all those boxes.

Rideshare driver here. I've been driving on these tires for about a month and a half now and I am extremely pleased with their performance. I did a lot of research before landing on these, and I'm glad I did. Couple major factors that influenced my decision: -the siping runs down the full depth of the tread, so I should be able to expect consistent performance throughout the life of the tires (unlike most others I've seen, which only run about halfway down the tread depth) -tread pattern lends well to evacuating snow and water which leads to really good grip -new all-weather compound means I get that winter tire 3PMSF rating but also don't have to worry about changing tires twice annually Highly recommend these to anyone looking for new tires if your size available. They've served me well and I've felt really safe out on the less than ideal wintry main roads and residential streets in Colorado.
Really happy with this tire. I do a lot of driving in all seasons of weather where I live. This tire is quiet, grips well for great car control in weather conditions. Can not speak on tread wear just yet but I will say I have put this tire on my other cars. Really nice tire.
I am happy with them .I am just waiting for the deep snow to see how they handle
Great price outstanding value. So far these tires perform excellently. Snow is just around the corner in Wisconsin and I expect them to perform just as well in the snow. Ride is much better than the factory installed tires. Tires were sent to my selected installer. (Richlonns Tire and service center, Muskego). Because this vehicle sits outside most of the time during winter months, I had the installer put nitrogen in all tires.
Tread wear good but most everything else was very good to great
I've owned 3 Subarus that have had just all season tires. I put these on a 2017 VW Jetta and swear I'm getting around better. I purchased the day before a bunch of snow got dumped on us. We have had easily 10 inches so far and I got around just fine. I went through stuff I thought for sure I would get stuck, but I didn't. I will definitely purchase these again when I need new tires!
