The Firestone Destination A/T is the American tire manufacturer’s all-terrain tire that’s designed for use on SUVs, Jeeps, and light trucks. The tire offers both on- and off-road traction and is optimized to serve year-round performance. This all-terrain, all-season tire is built utilizing world-class technologies that result in quiet and smooth rides.

But, is this tire really capable of providing seamless performance and traction on both on- and off-road surfaces? Let’s find out in this Firestone Destination A/T tire review.

    Features and Benefits

All-terrain tires are engineered to offer traction on- and off-road, and their construction is such that they not only can perform on the highways but can also climb rocks and do occasional off-roadings. The Firestone Destination A/T is no different and comes with all these aforementioned capabilities. It additionally combines the abilities of an all-season tire to offer you traction in dry, wet, and light winter weather conditions.

Now, let’s go over the features and benefits of this tire and find out what its true capabilities are.

    • Enhanced durability – The tire features reinforced steel belts and polyester body cords that enhance durability. The steel belt construction also helps in resisting punctures by providing overall sturdiness to the tire. The computer-optimized component system of the tire maximizes the tire performance in both on- and off-road conditions by optimizing casing shape, materials, tread design, and construction.
    • Impressive year-round performance – The Destination A/T has an all-season tread design featuring open-slotted shoulders, which allows the tire to provide traction in dry, wet, and light winter weather conditions. The circumferential tread grooves and lateral grooves of this all-terrain tire ease water evacuation and channel water effectively to reduce the risk of aquaplaning and improve wet-weather traction.
    • Quieter rides – The 5-degree noise reduction technology significantly contributes to minimizing the noise levels generated by the tread. Additionally, the continuous center rib of this tire also reduces the tread noise and offers pleasing drives year-round.
    • Better steering responsiveness and straight-line stability – The Destination A/T’s continuous center rib also contributes to enhancing straight-line stability. It also improves steering responsiveness and ensures excellent acceleration and braking in wet and dry conditions. In addition, the continuous nylon wrap over the inner structure of the tire enhances the tire’s high-speed capability.
    • Improved ride comfort – The O-Bead technology that uses a single continuous strand of cable improves uniformity as well as ride comfort.
    • Increased service life – The Destination A/T’s inner tire structure is encircled by a continuous nylon wrap that helps the tire in holding its original shape and serve for a longer time. The special long-length carbon structure of the tire improves tread wear and resists cracking, tearing, and chipping.

The Firestone Destination A/T is available in 16 to 18-inch rim sizes and is backed by a 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty. Some of its available sizes include:

    Pros and Cons

Now that you know the key features and benefits of this tire, you might want to know if you should consider the Firestone Destination A/T or choose something else. So, here’re the positives and negatives of this tire to help you understand the tire better.

    • Better traction in dry, wet, and light winter conditions.
    • Noise levels are remarkably controlled, especially while driving on pavement.
    • Covered by a 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty
    • Performance on mild off-road conditions is satisfactory.
    • Better vibration absorption capability than its counterparts.
    • More responsive and stable than many other tires in the segment.
    • Longer tread life than most competitors.

Unfortunately, no tire is perfect, and likewise, the Firestone Destination A/T also has some drawbacks.

    • Not a full-fledged off-road tire.
    • Should not be used in moderate to extreme winter weather conditions.
    • Slightly more expensive than its rivals.
    • Not the most fuel efficient tire.

SimpleTire’s view on Firestone Destination A/T tires

If you are looking for a branded all-terrain tire and are ready to pay some extra dollars to experience strong traction in dry, wet, and light winter weather conditions, then the Firestone Destination A/T is the right choice for you. The tread noise levels of this tire are well controlled, and its vibration absorption capability is better than most competitors in the race. The good thing is that it is covered by a 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty and many of its customer reviews have hinted that the tire has lasted for as long as 60,000 miles.

The performance of this tire in mild off-road conditions is good but, that being said, do not confuse this tire with a pure-breed mud terrain tire. In extremely challenging off-road conditions and harsh winter weather, this tire has its own limitations. Both on straight roads and during turns, the steering responsiveness of this tire is admirable and while driving at high speeds too, the tire doesn’t disappoint with its performance.

The Firestone Destination A/T competes against the likes of Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3, Falken Wildpeak AT3WA, Yokohama Geolander AT G015, Goodyear Wrangler AT, Hankook Dynapro ATM (RF10), Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T, and Nitto Terra Grappler.

Vehicles the Firestone Destination A/T is an OEM tire for

Suitable for use on SUVs, Jeeps, and light trucks, the Firestone Destination A/T is used as Original Equipment on the 2009 Chevrolet Colorado LT 4x4, 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, and 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk.

Vehicles the Firestone Destination A/T is a good replacement tire for

The Firestone Destination A/T can also be considered a good replacement choice for vehicles like Toyota Highlander, Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Acadia, Honda Ridgeline, Hyundai Veracruz, Jeep Commander, Ford F-250, and Dodge Dakota.

On my 2nd set. These work well offroad, in the sand, and in the snow. Wet pavement they are decent for being A/T tires. I replaced my 1st set around 35-40%. You notice a good difference in performance after the 45% mark. First set lasted me about 5 years and I believe i put over or about 40k miles on them.

I've only put around 10000 miles on these tires but I'm super impressed so far. It's a rav4 so dry handling is limited by the fact that it's a really boring car and wet handling is limited by the fact that we've been in a severe drought. I think tires make the vehicle and jump at the chance to buy new ones. Some people like bird watching or long walks on the beach. I like tires. I like doing smoke shows, climbing rocky trails, driving through deep snow, etc. I put them on a car we use primarily to bring our kid to chemo treatments 120 miles away as often as 4 days per week and they work well. They're quieter than the stock toyos on the highway even. They look great with the white letters out and climb dirt trails impressively well. I think you should buy some.

This is a nice tire for my Chevy Silverado Z71. I live in the country where my truck sees gravel roads, off-road use for work, gardening, and firewood cutting/hauling.

Fairly quiet for all terrain tires. Very smooth ride, no vibrations. I can't comment on winter traction yet. They do hydroplane quite a bit in deep puddles. Overall satisfied.

I had these Firestones on another truck for a short time before I sold it and loved them, so I got a new set for my F150. They are quiet and smooth. Excellent traction in all weather conditions. Only off-roading I've done with them is on gravel roads, but no issues there. No issues getting them balanced. Oh, and they look great with the outlined white letters facing out. I've got a few thousand miles on them and they seem to be wearing nice and evenly. These are getting harder to find, but this will definitely be my first stop when looking for my next set. The price through SimpleTire was simply awesome. I got good, name-brand tires, made in the US for less than a set of Chinese tires. Thanks SimpleTire.

This is my 1st set of Firestone tires - ever! While it's only a short time since I've received them, they perform excellently as my ratings show (Tread Life and Winter Traction - remain to be seen much later but I rated them in order to post this review so disregard that for now). Ride Noise probably should be 5 stars since they're much quieter than the tires I had before but seldom do you purchase anything that's perfect so I gave them a 4 star rating. I was torn between Goodyear and Firestone but the price for Firestone and the name brand (even though they're owned by Bridgestone now) won me over. I still remember the Firestone ads from the '60's and '70's that stated: "Wherever wheels are turning, No matter what the load, The name that's known is Firestone Where the rubber meets the road" Hopefully, this still applies in 2020 and beyond!

Love these tires! They have great tread depth and they look great! I got the 33's to replace my old 31's and the new bigger tires are actually quieter. The traction on wet/dry roads is great too, makes my 4X4 drive and handle like a car! Very very pleased!
