  • Federal Formoza AZ01

Established in Taiwan in 1954, Federal Tire with over 200 distributors spread across six continents, is a worldwide corporation with a strong local focus. Technical partnership with Bridgestone Tires from 1960 to 1979, as well as with Sumitomo Rubber Industries from 1981 to 2000, provided Federal with the required and strong technical capabilities and know-how to roll out quality tires. Federal Tire continues to manufacture innovative, high-quality tires for the UHP, SUV, light trucks, and passenger car lines, using cutting-edge technology, and stringent quality control.

The Federal Formoza AZ01 is an ultra-high-performance all-season tire that is designed to offer a luxurious driving experience with wet/dry performance and comfort. While its enclosed tread and tire blocks offer a comfortable drive, Formoza AZ01’s heat dissipation compounds and honeycomb design on the sidewall minimize heat generation.

However, are these UHP all-season tires designed for your vehicle and your wallet? Let’s take a look at a review of the Federal Formoza AZ01 for more information.

    Features and Benefits

Compared to touring tires, ultra-high-performance tires provide better traction and grip. UHP tires are made for drivers who drive faster and visit racetracks more frequently. A UHP all-season tire, the Federal Formoza AZ01 is designed for use on mid-sized sedans. Let’s check out its features and benefits:

    • Enhanced all-season traction: The Federal Formoza AZ01 has an all-season tread pattern that contributes to traction in dry, wet, and light winter weather conditions.
    • Reduced risk of hydroplaning: Blade-shaped grooves channel water away from the tread to reduce the risk of hydroplaning, boosting wet traction on slippery roads.
    • Improved fuel efficiency: Heat dissipation chemicals and a honeycomb pattern on the sidewall reduce heat generation and rolling resistance to improve fuel efficiency.
    • Comfortable ride: The Formoza AZ01's enclosed tread blocks reduce road noise and provide a comfortable ride.

    Pros and Cons

After learning the features and benefits of the Federal Formoza AZ01, you may wonder if these tires have any negatives. Let’s check out the pros and cons:

    PROS:

    • All-season tread pattern offers traction in dry, wet, and light winter weather conditions
    • Blade-shaped grooves remove water from the tread to reduce the risk of hydroplaning, boosting wet traction
    • Heat dissipation compound and a honeycomb-designed sidewall lower rolling resistance to improve fuel efficiency
    • Affordable

    CONS:

    • As these are not Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified, the Formoza AZ01 cannot handle harsh winter weather conditions
    • No mileage warranty
    • Not designed for light trucks

Seem to be great so far. Haven't driven enough to have an opinion for treadwear. Easy to balance. I would recommend for a tire at that price point.

Changed over from studded snows to these for summer season driving on a 2007 VW Jetta. Live in eastern Maine. Experienced Spring snow, sleet, and rain and tires performed well considering the type. No hydroplaning on collected water in grooved highways. Dry cornering on exit/on ramps at speed is comfortable with output drift or shift. Reasonable price. Cannot comment on wear at this time less than 1000 miles. Road noise minimal.

Have almost 2000 miles on them now after a trip from North Carolina to Florida and back. Once broken in, they track great and soak up bumps pretty well. I added a few extra psi before the long trip to account for a full car load and to protect my wheels. Got these all seasons as my second set of wheels for the fall and winter months, being that my other tires are high performance summers. Only had a small amount of rain since install, so can't truly comment on that. Overall, so far a great tire for the money. Federal seems to be a good mid range budget tire. We also have a set of Formoza fd2 on our 2013 Jetta that have done extremely well, partly why I went with federal again on my Audi.
