With every generation of light trucks, SUVs, and crossovers, the ride quality and handling just keep getting more sophisticated and comfortable, and that’s why you need a tire that complements that design. When it comes to the Continental SureContact LX, you’ve got a tire that rivals the best all-season and Grand Touring tires for cars in regards to long wear, wet-weather traction, dry-weather traction, road manners, handling, and stability. The SureContact LX leverages some of Continental’s best engineering and design for a premium quality tire for trucks and SUVs. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a light truck tire that delivers year-round traction with a supple ride, great tread life, and predictable, responsive handling. But don’t just take our word for it – we’re going to go in for a closer look with this product line review.

    Features and Benefits

All-season tires allow for year-round use, but they need specific features to do that. Here’s what the SureContact LX has within it to allow for excellent year-round performance and a better ride:

    • EcoPlus is design for lower rolling resistance and enhanced fuel economy
    • Circumferential grooves channel water away from the tire’s footprint to resist hydroplaning effect in standing water
    • Traction grooves and dense sipe pattern boost traction in light snow, slush, and wet roads
    • Built-in alignment indicators in the tread alert driver to uneven wear patterns
    • Backed by a 70,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty
    • Tread pitch is computer-tuned to keep road noise low
    • Advanced tread formulation with Tg-F polymers and +Silane for improved braking traction, wear properties, wet-weather grip, and rolling resistance
    • Stiffer sidewall for improved cornering, highway-speed stability
    • Continental’s Total Confidence plan provides best-in-class warranty coverage
    • Available with an Outlined white letter (OWL) sidewall that looks great on any truck or SUV

    Pros and Cons

So, is this Continental tire the right choice for your ride and budget? Before you decide, let’s take a look at the tire’s strengths:

    PROS:

    • Outstanding ride quality, noise level, road manners
    • Extremely stable on the highway
    • Great wet or dry weather traction
    • Generous tread life coverage

Unfortunately, no tire is perfect and that means the SureContact LX does have some shortcomings.

    CONS:

    • Not good off-road
    • Should not be used in moderate to severe winter weather conditions

SimpleTire’s view on Continental SureContact LX tires

If you’ve got a light truck or SUV that spends most of its time on the pavement and not in the dirt, why not invest in a set of tires that will let you own the road? That’s how we feel about the Continental SureContact LX. The ride quality and noise level with the SureContact LX are in line with what you’d expect for tires designed for a luxury car. Built-in wear indicators are a nice innovation, letting you plainly see when your alignment is out of spec and causing uneven wear. Continental has been developing new tread formulations for decades, and the tread compound for the SureContact LX is truly next-generation technology that pays off with outstanding traction and long wear.

The SureContact LX’s low rolling resistance means a significant savings on fuel, and a 70,000 mile treadwear warranty is best-in-class. Performance in light snow or slush is good, but to address the Cons above…no, the SureContact LX isn’t designed for off-road use and doesn’t deliver great traction off the pavement. Where the Continental SureContact LX excels, though, is on the highway and around town – the perfect light truck/SUV tire for daily drives and long road trips. With sizes from 16” to 22”, the SureContact LX is a good fitment for a wide range of vehicles.
