With the Geolandar A/T XD, Yokohama has designed a versatile light truck tire that’s equally capable on the jobsite, a muddy, unpaved road, the interstate, or an unplowed country road right after a snowstorm. Regardless of the circumstances, the Geolandar A/T XD is a durable and dependable commercial-grade all-terrain tire for light trucks and SUVs; it’s the kind of tire that can stand up to the punishment of real-world situations and hard-working commercial vehicles.
Yokohama designed the Geolandar A/T XD with a whole slate of features that boost both its durability and performance, with a tough tread compound, reinforced internal construction and sidewall, and an aggressive all-terrain tread pattern that can get you through just about any weather conditions imaginable. If you regularly find yourself in a tough spot off-road or have to get back to a remote site (and home again) regularly, you know that not just any all-terrain tire is up to the job. That’s why the Yokohama Geolandar A/T XD is worth your consideration.
So what is it about the Yokohama tire that makes it such a strong, standout tire? Let’s get into it for a closer look with this Yokohama Geolandar A/T XD review:
Features and Benefits
As an all-terrain tire for heavy-duty pickup trucks and SUVs, the Geolandar A/T XD is built to haul, tow, and perform on- and off-road. Here’s what the tire has within it to allow for that:
- Cut-and-chip resistant tread formulation for outstanding durability in rough use
- Wraparound lugs at shoulder onto the sidewall for enhanced lateral traction (good for clawing out of ruts)
- Yokohama’s GEO-SHIELD technology system reinforces casing and sidewall against impacts, cuts, punctures for rugged durability
- Deep tread depth for long service and outstanding traction
- High-void all-terrain tread pattern with mud and stone ejectors to protect casing and ensure there’s always a clear section of tread to dig in as the wheel turns
- Dual-ply casing design with high turnup at sidewall
- Hundreds of wavy sipes built into tread pattern to chew through snow and slush, cut through film of standing water
- Contact patch optimized to distribute vehicle weight and forces of torque, cornering and braking equally for long, even treadwear and excellent traction
- Sidewall design enhances appearance while protecting against damage
- Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified for severe winter service
- Available in 21 sizes from 16 to 20 inches
- Pre-drilled for installation of #15 studs, where permitted, in case of severe winter weather and ice
- 45,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty
- Tread pitch is computer tuned to keep road noise low

SimpleTire’s view on Yokohama Geolandar A/T XD tires
Not all all-terrain tires are created equal, and the Yokohama Geolandar A/T XD is a standout for its heavy-duty, high-performance design. This is a tire that’d be perfect for a fleet vehicle or a work truck that regularly sees rough service. The aggressive, deep, all-terrain tread really delivers traction in some of the most difficult situations. Snow performance is also quite good, thanks to the sipes and extra tread depth and, of course, it’s pinned for easy installation of studs in case you have to navigate icy roads (check your state laws, as studs aren’t legal everywhere and are only legal in certain months elsewhere). The damage-resistant tread formulation exceeds expectations and the 3-ply sidewall is tough as nails. On the highway, the Geolandar A/T XD’s staggered tread blocks and zigzag grooves help keep road noise lower than you’d expect for a tire like this (lots of all-terrain tires howl like banshees at highway speed), and its straight-line stability is what you’d expect from an all-season or highway-terrain tire.
That said, steering response tends to feel a little rubbery with this tire and not as crisp as we might like (which isn't unusual for all-terrain tires). Ride quality is okay but not exactly refined; interestingly, this tire seems to do better with big bumps and potholes than with minor road irregularities. Still, with its 45,000 mile warranty (remember many A/T tires don’t have treadwear coverage at all), superb durability, and unbeatable traction, we feel that the Yokohama Geolandar A/T XD is an outstanding choice in a tough AT tire.
