  • Summit Trail Climber AT

American tire manufacturer Summit began its journey in 1974 and is now a member of the Tire Alliance Group. Under three main tire categories of all-season, UHP all-season, and all-terrain tires, Summit rolls out tires for passenger cars, coupes, sedans, minivans, CUVs, SUVs, light trucks, commercial, and farm vehicles. The American tire maker uses cutting-edge technology to deliver quality tires that meet global standards and serve the purpose they’re meant for. The Trail Climber AT is a capable tire from its all-terrain tire line.

Designed for Jeeps, SUVs, and light trucks, the Summit Trail Climber AT features an aggressive tread pattern and reinforced sidewalls that assure enhanced traction and resistance to any damage during off-road adventures. While the circumferential wide tread grooves deliver improved wet grip and handling by avoiding hydroplaning, the tiered tread grooves reduce stone retention. Adding extra durability are the jointless bead cover, high tensile strength bead wire, and wrapped bead wire that provide structural rigidity to the tire for conquering challenging terrains. The presence of a rim protector helps safeguard the tire and wheel from damage. Lastly, the Summit tire comes with a 40,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty.

So, should you make it your companion for the next off-road expedition? Let’s find out more in this Summit Trail Climber AT review.

    Features and Benefits

    Summit Trail Climber AT

All-terrain tires are engineered to resist challenging conditions thanks to their sturdy tread blocks and reinforced construction that bars cuts and chips from damaging the tread. The Summit tire claims to be your go-anywhere tire; let’s check what’s the how behind it.

    • Rugged performance: The tough rubber compound and aggressive tread pattern allow better control and grip on treacherous terrains. While the central tread area provides great grip and handling, the solid shoulder design with wide grooves and sipes ensures improved stability and uniform wear. Thanks to circumferential grooves, the tire performs well in wet conditions as it helps clear water and debris to avoid the risk of hydroplaning.
    • Sturdy built: The use of jointless bead cover, high tensile strength bead wire, and wrapped bead wire not only provides structural rigidity but also aids in delivering a stable and smooth ride quality. The reinforced construction and rim protector protects the tire and wheel from any external damage.
    • Long-lasting: The special tread compound resists cuts, chips, and snags and results in a longer service life. The aggressive tread design and solid shoulders not only provide better traction but also ensure even wear throughout the lifecycle of the tire.

SimpleTire’s view on Summit Trail Climber AT tires

    Summit Trail Climber AT

In a nutshell, the Summit tire (starts around $122) is an affordable tire best suited for owners looking for a sturdy tire that does great in off-road conditions and has decent on-road manners. The longer service life with a limited tread life warranty of 40,000 miles is a big plus for a budget tire like the Trail Climber AT.

It competes with the likes of Radar Renegade A/T Pro (starts around $140), Gladiator X COMP A/T (starts around $218), and Kenda Klever A/T (KR28) (starts around $145).

Among these, only the Radar comes with a 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty while the rest two do not have any warranty. The Summit is the most economical option here, and yet it gets a 40,000 mile warranty making it a good choice to opt for.

I first purchased these tires in 2018. Drove with higher pressure for the sandy conditions, miles & miles of dirt & gravel just to get to blacktop. At 39.5k they gave up the last of the tread. Bought a different brand, totally unsatisfied, so when Malpais tore a hole in one, I decided to get another full set of Kanati. These I'll run at vehicle specs and may double the mileage. On top of being relatively quiet & wonderfully stable in soft sand, rugged enough to endure lava rock, they Look Good! Wish they were still the 2018 price, but all things change.

ran across these reviews because I'm looking to buy my second set of these. I was impressed with the first set and obviously will buy them again. I ran them for 2.5 years, winter and summer. that's about 50K miles!

Less than 1k so far on mainly dirt & gravel roads. I would prefer this tread on a wider tire, perhaps. Slips a bit in mud, but pulled a ton of water uphill using 4wd. Quiet enough on highway, smooth ride on blacktop. New tread in snow was slick, fared well enough on ice, not chancing my driveway in full thaw, so can't say how well they handle deep muck (high centered in my own driveway once). I didn't move to the middle of nowhere to go somewhere, anyway. If the price remains fair, I might replace with these again.
