All-season tires are the single biggest-selling category of tires, and for good reason. For most drivers of sedans, coupes, crossovers and minivans, all-season tires are the perfect all-around answer for year-round driving needs. They deliver long wear, dependable traction in changing weather conditions, a quiet, comfortable ride, good road manners and precise, predictable handling.

Considering the demand for all-season tires, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there are many, many all-season tires on the market to choose from. In most cases, they’re a you-get-what-you-pay-for proposition, but there are some very good all-season tires at lower prices. The Nitto NT421Q is designed to get you through all four seasons safely, dependably and comfortably without putting too much stress on your checking account.

So is this really the kind of all-season tire that can meet those expectations? Let’s take a closer look with this Nitto NT421Q review.

    Features and Benefits

The NT421Q from Nitto is packed with advanced features and innovations that enhance performance and make it a real value:

    • Asymmetric all-season tread is computer-tuned to deliver low road noise and a comfortable ride
    • Innovative maintenance indicators are molded into the tread to alert drivers to excessive wear and uneven wear issues before they turn into big problems
    • Sipe pattern includes 3D multi-wave sipes and interlocking sipes for hundreds of extra edges that cut through snow, slush, standing water
    • Circumferential inserts provide extra reinforcement at the shoulder to resist damage from potholes, curbs
    • Large, stable, rigid tread blocks in asymmetric pattern improve cornering stability
    • Three wide, deep circumferential grooves channel water away from the tire’s contact patch to resist hydroplaning effect in standing water
    • Inside area of the asymmetric tread is designed for winter traction, with large, lateral open grooves and an extra-dense pattern of sipes for more biting edges in contact with the road
    • Footprint optimized to put more rubber on the pavement
    • Class-leading 75,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for H- and V-speed rated sizes, and a 60,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for W-speed rated sizes
    • Available in sizes from 17” to 22”, for a wide range of fitments
    • Extra-deep tread of 10/32” to 13/32”

    Pros and Cons

So, is this the right tire for your ride and budget? Before you decide, let’s take a look at the tire’s strengths:

    PROS:

    • Refined, quiet ride quality
    • Great road manners and handling at high speeds
    • Exceptional treadwear coverage
    • Reinforced shoulder for extra durability
    • Precise, sporty handling and steering response

Unfortunately, no tire is perfect and that’s the case with the NT421Q too. Here are the tire’s weaknesses:

    CONS:

    • A little expensive
    • Should not be used in moderate to severe winter weather conditions
    • Snow and winter performance could be better

SimpleTire’s view on Nitto NT421Q tires

Nitto is a sub-brand of Toyo (in case you were wondering), and is quickly developing a reputation for quality and value. The Nitto NT421Q is a perfect example why – this is a tire that’s a great fit on a wide range of vehicles. Its silky ride quality and consistent, sporty handling and cornering ability make it equally at home on a sports sedan or a minivan, and the 75,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty is hard to match with any all-season tire, regardless of the manufacturer or price point. Innovations like the intelligent wear indicators and reinforced inserts at the shoulder give the Nitto NT421Q an edge over lots of other tires, and it’s also a tire that looks great on a wide variety of vehicles.

Yes, it’s a little more pricey (but not as pricey as many other brands), and no, it’s not a great performer in deeper snow (most all-season tires aren’t). What the Nitto NT421Q is, though, is a great value for year-round performance, with ride quality and noise levels that rival the best touring tires out there.

Vehicles the Nitto NT421Q is a good replacement tire for

Nothing like them. Silky, noiseless ride despite the aggressive shoulders capable of sport cornering. I once came up on a man down in the middle of my lane on a blind rise, and whipped around him like a race car driver. In a Toyota Highlander, no less. Only things better in snow and ice are dedicated winter tires.

SimpleTire as always delivers. However, as far as the tire... my biggest gripe is the tread wear. Didn't last over 15k miles. They performed as expected though on my '17 Scatpack.

2015 Silverado factory 22" wheels. Running OE recommended air pressure resulted in cupping of tires on center tread to the point of wearing to the treadbars within 18,000 miles while outer portions of the tire have 50% more tread still. Verified air pressure on a weekly basis using high quality pressure gauge (did not have this problem with my other 2 vehicles which I maintain with the same pressure gauge). Dry braking grip is horrible with this tire on my vehicle. I would not recommend this tire for a heavy vehicle such as mine.

I am now a true believer in the Nitto brand. I bought these to replace the stock Kumho tires that came on my 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. Just for information reasons, these tires did need some breaking in, which seemed to take about 2000 miles. The ride improved drastically compared to the previous tires that were on the car. It changed the car completely and couldn't be happier. Wet traction is also fantastic. Highly recommend Nitto to anyone.

I have these about a month on my Infinity FX, so far outstanding. Ride is smooth and quite. Has not rained so I cannot comment on wet handling. I had Michelins Premiers on it before, but I got tired of them wearing out quickly given the price. I actually think these Nittos ride better.

So far they have been great. I am much happier than these than the Michelin's we had. But time will tell.

I have a 2006 Volvo XC90 front wheel drive. The Nitto NT421Q transformed the car, its ride and handling. So much smoother, quieter than previous tires. Handling is smooth and precise. Way too early to tell about tread-life, but so far, loving them.

Put these on a 2011 Acura MDX replacing the original Bridgestones Rides and handles like a different vehicle. Sharper turning and better handling. Went from truck-like to sporty.

Great tire for a great price at Simple Tire. I have these tires on a 1500 Sierra Truck and the ride and noise are excellent.
