Established in 1949, Nitto Tires is one of the industry's top suppliers of tires for automobiles. With over 70 years of innovation, Nitto offers a wide range of high-performance and long-lasting products with continuous innovation. Nitto captures the hearts of consumers with their feature-rich, unrivaled quality tires in a variety of designs.

The Nitto Dura Grappler is a highway terrain tire that is designed for commercial grade on-road performance and long-term durability in your truck or SUV.

However, is it the tire that's best for your vehicle and your wallet? Let's take a look at a review of Nitto Dura Grappler to see if it's the right tire for you.

    Features and Benefits

As the name indicates, highway terrain tires perform better on paved roads and highways. If you spend the majority of your time on the highway, learning about the features and benefits of the Nitto Dura Grappler will be beneficial.

    • Dual sidewall design: There are two sidewall designs available for the Dura Grappler: a metal fin design on one side and a traditional design on the other. This allows drivers to pick the look that best suits their ride.
    • Improved all-season traction: Because of the tread pattern, the tire provides excellent all-season traction. The tread pattern includes waved sipes that firmly grip the road in dry, wet, and light winter conditions. Moreover, waved sipes increase the rigidity of the tread block, ensuring all-season road grip. By channeling water and slush from beneath the tire footprint, the wide circumferential grooves actively prevent hydroplaning.
    • Increased tread life: A unique, multi-rib tread pattern and wear-oriented compound extends tread life. A multi-rib pattern connects the tread blocks, reducing tread flexing, which also enables the tire to distribute the driving pressure uniformly across the tread area, preventing the development of abrasive wear patterns. Tread wear rate is slower with the wear-oriented rubber compound, extending the tread life and usefulness.
    • Better handling: The tread pattern features four or five ribs, depending on the tire size. These ribs consistently maintain road contact by firmly gripping the pavement, which increases the tire's steering responsiveness and driving stability. While the tire is stabilized against the effects of driving pressure, the steering becomes quick and precise in response to the driver's commands. Improved steering accuracy, responsiveness, and driving stability ensure easy handling and controllability.
    • Reduced road noise levels: Through a combination of increased tread rigidity and reduced tread flexing, the tire is also to reduce road noise. They stop the tread elements from shifting, which prevents the airwaves from interacting with the tread elements and generating road noise. Reduced levels of road noise guarantees a quiet and comfortable driving experience.

    Pros and Cons

So, is it a good fit for your light truck and SUV? Before we reach a conclusion, let us first consider its pros and cons:

    • Perfect tread for highways
    • Backed by a 60,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for P-metric sizes
    • Dual sidewall designs allows drivers to pick the looks that’s best for their ride
    • By connecting the tread blocks to lessen tread flex, the multi-rib pattern increases tread life
    • Waved sipes to improved traction in wet conditions
    • Circumferential grooves to reduce the risk of hydroplaning by removing water from the tread
    • Quieter ride

Without a doubt, the Dura Grappler is an excellent highway terrain tire, but there are some areas where it could be improved:

    • In deeper, heavier snow or on the iciest winter roads, the Dura Grappler is less effective.

SimpleTire’s view on Nitto Dura Grappler tires

For a highway terrain tire Nitto Dura Grappler is a great option. When we compare the Nitto Dura Grappler to highway terrain tires such as the Hankook Dynapro HT(RH12) and Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056, the Nitto Dura Grappler provides equally good traction, handling, and performance all year. Despite offering a slightly lower mileage warranty than the Hankook Dynapro HT(RH12) and Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056 tires, the Nitto Dura Grappler is less expensive than both of them. Due to its low cost and superior performance, the Nitto Dura Grappler is a great highway terrain tire.

Vehicles the Nitto Dura Grappler is a good replacement tire for

Even though it is not used as original equipment, the Nitto Dura Grappler is a great replacement tire for vehicles like the Ford F-350, GMC Yukon XL, Dodge Ram, Honda Pilot, and Chevrolet Silverado 2500.

I'm on my third set of these tires on my F-150. This is a great highway tire, as I've had 71,000 miles and 77,000 miles respectively on the previous sets. This is not a tire for mud, but definitely the best highway tire I've had for a truck.

I've had these tires on for several months now and I love their performance. I've rated tread life and winter traction as N/A because I don't have any winter miles on these tires yet and they are still practically new, so I cannot attest to the tread life. Wet handling is ok, but it is not an open shoulder tire and I drive accordingly. All other metrics are beautiful. I like this tire and would buy again.

Great handling, no road noise, I have Trail Grapplers on my jeep and those are excellent wearing tires, I think these will wear just as well
