A reputed tire manufacturer, Montreal Tires is known for producing affordable tires while prioritizing durability. With supplies to over 45 countries, Montreal produces touring, high-performance, and highway tires for passenger cars, along with SUV, commercial, and light truck tires. The product lineup of the company includes different types of tires, including all-season, performance, highway, and commercial.
Developed as an all-season tire for passenger cars that offers good braking performance, the Montreal Eco-2 has been designed for year-round performance. It enhances the ride quality and fuel economy, providing quiet and comfortable rides in different conditions. Ideal for use on sedans, minivans, coupes, SUVs, and CUVs, it is designed for low rolling resistance and features symmetric shoulder kerfs that improve handling and reduce road noise. The Eco-2 features wide circumferential grooves that evacuate water from the contact patch of the tire to reduce the risk of hydroplaning. With two center ribs, it enhances road manners and braking.
So, is it worth going for? Let's try to answer in this Montreal Eco-2 review.
Features and Benefits
All-season tires are designed for use on sedans, minivans, coupes, CUVs, and SUVs, and so is the Eco-2. These are ideally used at temperatures above freezing point and are ideal for drivers who love grippy tires that can also perform well, offering faster acceleration and shorter braking distances. You can make use of them in both dry and wet conditions as well as light snow. Let’s understand the features and benefits of the Montreal Eco-2:
- Enhanced traction: Thanks to the wide, circumferential grooves, the Eco-2 eliminates water from the contact patch of the tire to minimize the risk of hydroplaning in wet conditions. The tire also delivers decent traction on dry and wet roads.
- Better handling: The special tread pattern of the tire significantly improves stability and handling at high speeds. The two ribs at its center enhance braking capabilities, helping drivers maintain control over the vehicle even during sudden maneuvers. With its flat footprint, the Eco-2 ensures constant road contact that promotes better steering responsiveness to make the rides stable.
- Long durability: The Montreal Eco-2 is backed by a 45,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty. Thanks to its durable construction and well-engineered tread design, it offers an extended tread life. It ensures the even distribution of pressure across the tire's surface, preventing premature wear and irregular tread patterns.
Pros and Cons
While the Eco-2 offers several benefits, it also has some drawbacks. Let’s glance over its pros and cons before we sum up this Montreal Eco-2 review.
PROS:
- Reasonably priced all-season tire suitable for all types of passenger cars
- Better fuel economy due to its low rolling resistance
- Decent all-weather traction and resistance to hydroplaning
- Quiet and comfortable ride with symmetric shoulder kerfs
- Durable rubber compound for a long tread life
CONS:
- It cannot be used on rugged terrains
- It is not suitable for use in severe winter conditions
SimpleTire’s view on Montreal Eco-2 tires
In brief, the Montreal Eco-2 (starting at around $49) is a good all-season tire for passenger vehicles. It offers quiet and comfortable rides, along with better fuel economy while resisting hydroplaning in wet conditions. Its 45,000 mile tread life warranty defines its longevity, making it a great choice for budget owners. If you are looking for an affordable all-season tire that can also double up as a performance product, the Montreal Eco-2 should be an ideal match.
The Eco-2 locks horns with the likes of Atlander XSport-86 (starting at around $61) and Goodtrip GR-66 (starting at around $59). With a SimpleScore of 8 out of 10, the Montreal Eco-2 has the highest average SimpleScore compared to the Atlander (7.6) and Goodtrip (7.8).
In the traction and handling departments, the Goodtrip tire is at the top with scores of 7.9 and 8.6, followed by Montreal (7.6 and 8.4) and Atlander (7.4 and 8.4). However, the Montreal Eco-2 sits at the top when it comes to longevity with ratings of 8.2, followed by Goodtrip (7.6) and Atlander (7.2). Unlike the Atlander XSport 86, the Goodtrip GR-66 comes with a 45,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty, making it another good option after the Montreal Eco-2.

Good tires
Only had tires a couple months. But am happy with them. I pull a small camper and they are holding up well.
12" hard to find size for an old compact car from the '60s. These tires ride firmer than the previous odd brand tires. Made in Turkey.
