  • An associate brand of one of the largest tire manufacturers in the USA, Cooper Tire, Mastercraft Tires is known for producing and supplying durable and high-quality tires worldwide. It offers a wide range of tires for passenger vehicles, light and full-size trucks, crossovers, minivans, and SUVs. Mastercraft carries the legacy of Cooper Tire, which boasts over 100 years of experience in the industry and is known for its excellence in technology, performance, features, and value. It has come up with an extensive product lineup, including different types of tires like all-season, all-terrain, winter, highway, mud-terrain, and performance.Developed for SUVs, the Mastercraft Courser HTR is a great highway tire that offers excellent control and durability.

While the Courser HTR features a solid center rib that boosts driving stability and steering response, the high-density sipes and lateral traction grooves boost all-weather traction. The lateral and circumferential grooves of the Courser HTR eliminate water from the tread to mitigate the risk of hydroplaning and boost wet performance. Thanks to the thick and blocky shoulder design, the highway tire pushes water from the tread to enhance grip in wet terrain. To protect itself from accidental curb damage, its rubber rim protector extends beyond the rim flange. It maintains constant road contact to distribute the driving pressure equally, thereby preventing irregular wear and ensuring a long lifespan.

So, is it worth going for? Let's try to answer in this Mastercraft Courser HTR review.

    Features and Benefits

Highway tires are durable and strong, and they are generally used on SUVs and light trucks since they carry heavier loads and haul materials. They can be used on highways, paved roads, and even off-road if required. Here are the features and benefits of the Mastercraft Courser HTR:

    • All-weather traction: Thanks to the unique tread pattern of the Courser HTR, it boasts excellent all-weather traction. The see-through grooves within the tread remove water, while its lateral traction grooves and dense sipes grip the road surface firmly. While the combination of these tread elements boosts traction in dry, wet, and snowy conditions, they reduce the risk of hydroplaning by eliminating water and slush from the tread.
    • Better handling: Thanks to its special notched solid center rib, the Courser HTR maintains constant road contact and delivers better driving stability and steering response. Drivers experience precise handling, retaining complete control over the vehicle in all weather conditions, as the high tread depth and symmetric tread pattern also improve performance.
    • Long lifespan: While the tread design maintains constant contact with the road surface to prevent uneven wear, it ensures even pressure distribution across the tread area to extend tire life. Thus, the forces of cornering, braking, and acceleration do not concentrate on a single area, which prevents uneven wear.

    Pros and Cons

While the Courser HTR offers several benefits, it has some drawbacks too. Let’s glance over its pros and cons before we sum up this Mastercraft Courser HTR tire review.

    PROS:

    • Enhances winter performance and wet traction on ice and snow
    • Improves handling with better steering response
    • Low tire noise
    • Reduces the risk of hydroplaning by eliminating water from the contact patch
    • Lasts long and prevents irregular tread wear while navigating different conditions

    CONS:

    • It doesn’t come with a mileage warranty
    • It is not suitable for severe winter weather

SimpleTire’s view on Mastercraft Courser HTR tires

To sum up, the Mastercraft Courser HTR is a great highway tire developed for SUVs hauling loads across long distances. It offers good dry, wet, and snow traction while ensuring decent steering response across all seasons. Its consistent surface contact improves handling and prevents uneven wear. If you are looking for a durable highway tire for your SUV, you can go for the Mastercraft Courser HTR. However, the absence of a mileage warranty could deter potential buyers.

It locks horns with the likes of GT Radial Savero HT2 and Kenda Klever H/T 2 (KR600).

With a fantastic score of 8.4 out of 10, the Mastercraft leads the race here, followed by the Kenda (8.3) and GT Radial (8.1). Despite scoring low, the Kenda and the GT Radial have an ace up their sleeves – a 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty (up to 60,000 miles for the Kenda). While the Courser HTR has an upper hand in traction (8.9) and handling (8.5), the Kenda manages to pin the Mastercraft with a better score (8.4 vs 8.2) when it comes to longevity.

Vehicles the Mastercraft Courser HTR is a good replacement tire for

The Mastercraft Courser HTR will be a good replacement tire for vehicles like BMW X5, Honda Ridgeline, Ford F-150, Chevrolet Express 3500, and more.

This is the third time have put these tires on my BMW X5. They ride quiet and have great Dry, Wet traction and no issues in the Snow. I like how they look and perform.
