Do you have a light truck or SUV and are looking for an all-season tire that will deliver performance, ride quality, low noise, long wear, and year-round traction? That’s what you’ll get with the Kumho Crugen HT51. The Crugen HT51 is a tire that really rivals the best touring tires for sedans and crossovers, but with the load rating and durability of a light truck tire.
So what is it that makes this such a great tire, anyway? Let’s delve into our Kumho Crugen HT51 review and see if this is the right tire for your vehicle and your needs.
Features and Benefits
All-season tires are built for year-round use and are some of the most common tires on the road today. Because of their year-round use, these tires need to have certain features that allow for consistent performance in dry, wet, and light winter weather.
- Wide circumferential grooves channel water away from the tire’s contact patch to resist hydroplaning
- 3D sipes boost traction in wet or wintry conditions
- Tread pitch is computer tuned to keep road noise low
- 5-rib tread with continuous center rib for great straight-line stability and steering response on the highway
- Two steel belts with polyester cord and spiral-wound nylon cap ply enhance strength and durability
- Wide, flat footprint puts more rubber on the road to boost acceleration, braking, cornering, and handling capabilities
- Reinforced sidewall and bead allow for a higher load carrying capacity
Backed by a 70,000 mile manufacturer tread life warranty for P-metric sizes, and 45,000 mile manufacturer tread life warranty for LT-metric sizes, the Crugen HT51 is also Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified for use in moderate to severe winter weather conditions. Additionally, the tire is eligible for Kumho’s 72 month material and workmanship warranty and road hazard coverage
Pros and Cons
Like most all-season tires, the Crugen HT51 has some pretty clear pros:
Pros:
- Quiet, comfortable ride
- Rated for severe winter service
- Backed by a long tread life and additional warranties
Cons:
- Wet-weather braking performance could be better
- Not great for hauling or towing heavy loads
SimpleTire’s view on Kumho Crugen HT51 tires
There are a lot of competitors when it comes to all-season tires for light trucks and SUVs, and plenty of options out there. It’s our view at SimpleTire that the Kumho Crugen HT51 is right up there with the best of them – it’s a tire that outperforms expectations in about every respect, especially when you consider how affordable it is compared to the competition.
Kumho still isn’t one of the first names that comes to mind when it comes to premium all-season tires, but they’re one of the premier tire manufacturers in South Korea and are quickly making their presence known everywhere, with more and more vehicles leaving the factory with Kumho tires as original equipment. It’s a tough choice considering all the ways you can go with light truck tires, but considering the Crugen HT51’s positives we don’t think there’s any way you can go wrong with this tire.

Ok tires but I should have just replaced the Bridgestones I had
Have about 1,000 miles with them on my F 250, and they seem every bit as good as the Michelins they replaced. So far, I'm glad that I took the chance!
These are the ONLY tires I will EVER buy! Had them on my 03 Kia Sorento and now on my 06 Explorer XLT. They handle great! Not noisy at all. You will love them too!!
For this review, the tires or brands of tires...doesn't matter. I have used "Simple Tire" a few times the past couple of years for tires and also needed to return a couple... Excellent delivery times! Superb customer service! I highly recommend Simple tire.com!
Put these on my wife's Toyota Highlander which is AWD and they perform great in everything, they remind me of the Michellen ltx . I would definitely recommend these on SUV type vehicle's.
My mileage went down after replacing these with the stock tires on my 2011 Nissan Frontier SV. I wish I'd spent a little more on something else that wouldn't have not affected my gas mileage as much (lost about 2 MPG). These tires were also a pain to get balanced...shaking at high speeds. I would not buy these again due to the above two reasons. I don't have many miles on these tires.
These Kumho Crugens are so perfect for my Xterra... they handle every driving situation I've encountered, and with Winter coming soon, I expect them to perform extremely well. Kumho brand tires are very impressive. I bought them based upon the result of high marks across multiple review sites. Glad I did the research!
Never got a chance to try them out due to the listing online was very misleading and I was under the impression that the tires came with rims like I saw in the pictures but they didn't so they didn't fit my car because my current rims were a size smaller than the tires themselves. Delivery was fast though and customer service was very nice and helpful
Really enjoy the tires. A little hard when cold, but smooth out later. Would recommend these tires to a friend. Ordering process and financing easy, no problems.
