Including the DuPont Kevlar into Wrangler MT/R was Goodyear’s first attempt to include an innovative material stronger than steel in its tire. As is natural, this paid rich dividends in terms of making the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar tough enough to handle all types of terrains without damage. When considered pound-for-pound, DuPont Kevlar is five times stronger than steel, which is responsible for a tire sidewall that’s highly resistant to punctures and cuts while off-road. Despite being mud terrain tires, they are surprisingly quiet. Learn more about them in this Goodyear Wrangler MT/R review.
Features and Benefits
Goodyear makes tires for various segments, and the Wrangler MT/R is an ideal tire for light trucks, SUVs, and Jeeps that constantly travel through difficult terrains such as trails. Most of these tires are typically made in Akron, OH, and are available with a ply rating of 6, 8, or 10. During the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tire review, we found that these are built more for handling loads than for speed, featuring a Q speed rating. Considering the type of tires these are, you may find the ride to be a little stiff. Take a look at the main features and benefits of Wrangler MT/R below:
- Superb off-road traction and handling- The use of an advanced silica rubber compound leads to excellent off-road traction and handling.
- High puncture resistance- High puncture resistance is made possible through the use of reinforced Kevlar sidewalls
- Additional traction in sand and deep mud- This tire features wraparound tread for generating additional traction on deep mud, rocks, and sand.
- Unbeatable grip- The grip on mud and rocks is further strengthened due to an aggressive and asymmetric tread design.
- Easy to drive on the highway- Despite being mud-terrain, these tires are easy to drive on the highways, providing decent comfort levels.
Pros and Cons
The Goodyear MT/R with Kevlar is meant for individuals who often do not follow the regular roads, but end up making their own. Off-road enthusiasts love the levels of grip this tire offers, especially on rocks. Apart from Kevlar as a first, this tire features an asymmetric design on an off-road tire from the manufacturer for the first time as well. Traction is what people want with a mud-terrain tire and that’s exactly what they get through this tire, available with the following pros and cons:
Pros:
- Surprisingly low road noise
- Fairly comfortable on the highway
- Great dry and wet traction
- Hard sidewalls for pavement driving
- Handle well in rocks, sand, and deep mud
- Good for daily driving too
- Short wet braking distance
Cons
- No limited manufacturer warranty
- Unsuitable for moderate to severe winters as they aren’t Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified
- Available in only a few sizes
SimpleTire’s view on Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar tires
Despite having entered into the market roughly a decade ago, Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar tires are still practical choices as durable off-road tires that perform well enough to take you to trails and back home. These tires perform the best in wet weather and when you look at the tread pattern carefully, you’ll notice that they look like hybrids more than mud terrains, which explains how they work fairly well on highways and trails. Great mud traction is one of the main reasons for users to buy this tire, giving it a high Goodyear Wrangler MT/R rating as it can work well after the rains in areas such as farms where most other tires struggle. Also, you may find that the wet grip isn’t that good right at the beginning- be patient as it often improves with time.

Pretty good so far
These are great off-road and snow tires
Car rides nice and smooth
I am a 71 year old rancher that has driven hundreds of thousands of miles on many different sets of tires on all types of vehicles and these tires are head and shoulders above any other tires i have driven. If there was ever a perfect tire this would be at the top of the list.
Great tires so far holding up nicely!!! Great service had a issue with my order and was taken care of immediately. They had a tire shipped out and replaced mine at the same time I shipped one back . Simple tire went above and beyond to take care of me and to keep me happy . A+++++ would highly recommend both tires and tire shop!!
Great tire for off road use and road too. Much quieter than I expected considering the serious tread. Definitely the most quiet off road tire I have ever owned and they are crazy tough. I have had these before and the tread is usually pretty used up for a winter tire by around 25k, but have never popped one, even when they were run down to almost smooth. Great in the mud and woods, and rock climbing in my Rubicon.
Bob did the job , Great service and an excellent set of tires . I will definitely be coming back to Simple Tire for my next set . Keep up the good work
I have owned a set of these tires before and fell in love with them. They are very quiet on the road hook up great in sand rocks mud and snow. I like them on the ice as well but we all know there's no such thing as a amazing ice tire. I will not buy these tires again they have a lateral imbalance the same thing I suffered threw with my last set. It's a shame that I found a tire that works everywhere I need it but has balance issues
