When it comes to mud-terrain, all-terrain, and rugged-terrain tires for light trucks and SUVs, it’s a pretty crowded field and there are a lot of tough, durable tires out there that deliver great performance on or off the pavement. The folks at General had a winner with the Grabber years ago, and built on the success of that massively-popular tire with the Grabber X3. But is this the right tire for you? Let’s take a look in this General Grabber X3 review.

    Features and Benefits

So what can you expect when you get the General Grabber X3?

    • 3 ply construction delivers real durability in tough off-road use
    • Stone bumpers embedded in the tread help eject rocks, sticks, and debris to protect the casing and ensure there’s always a clear section of tire to dig into soft dirt, sand, or mud
    • Specially-designed sidewall deflection ribs guard the upper shoulder and sidewall against cuts and punctures
    • Alternating shoulder blocks and computer-designed tread elements deliver excellent traction while keeping road noise to a minimum
    • Great-looking, distinctive red letter sidewall styling
    • Super-high-strength steel belts and General’s Duragen build technology for rugged performance and toughness
    • High-void tread pattern, alternating shoulder scoops and multi-angle gripping edges for unbeatable traction on a variety of surfaces
    • Footprint is optimized for traction on- or off-road, while also promoting even wear, a stable ride, and boosting handling
    • Visual Alignment Indicators and Tread Wear Indicators built into tread to alert driver to premature or uneven wear

    Pros and Cons

Like most General tires, the Grabber X3 has more pros than cons:

    Pros:

    • Really tough design and construction for use in the roughest off-road conditions
    • Can be used aired-down to 10-15 psi for rock crawling
    • Stone ejectors protect the casing from damage
    • Great looking red-letter sidewall helps your ride stand out
    • Advanced tread design for traction in mud, snow, sand, dirt, gravel

    Cons:

    • Quieter than some mud-terrain tires but still a little loud
    • Not the best traction on dry pavement
    • No limited manufacturer tread life warranty

By far one of the best tires I have ever had. They survived a cross country road trip that went from wet to dry on and off road, then down to Mexico where they pre-ran the Baja 1000, then back home with little tread loss and no damage. Incredible! Already purchased another set for my other truck.

Ok I wanted to wait at least 1500 miles before I submitted A review, we all know anything NEW is wonderful, with the exception of a few bad apples, anyways I absolutely love these tires, I was skeptical at first but my worries soon disappeared after seeing the on a tire balancer and they all balanced wonderful and spun perfectly "round". The road noise is almost un-noticeable, very quiet for an "off-road" tire, the ride is fantastic. As far as wet pavement and snow traction I am not much help because I have not encountered that as of yet, it is still summer here. Made in America? Yes. Recommend? Absolutely. Quality tire for the price point. I know there are plenty of tire manufacturers out there with better (and worse) pricing of there tires but this General tire has my thumbs up. I drive an 2000 model F-350 Superduty 4X4 crew cab, short bed with a 4" lift, nothing fancy.......

Some of the best tires I have ever had. I have ran Mickey Thompsons Baja MTZ, Goodyear Wrangler MTRs, and BFG Mud Terrains KM2. From rock crawling to trails to the baja desert..the General X3s have outperformed in every way!

Excellent tire, had on my rubicon wrangler. It handled all conditions thrown at it. Wet roads, mud, snow, and ice. Did superbly on rocks off road. Very slight noise thru soft top. Excellent road manners.

So far so good, haven't had a chance to get into snow yet so can't review that. Only put 2,000 miles on these so far so not sure on the tread life but I don't see any unusual wearing. I did notice that they were a bit squirrely after they were installed but seemed to have calmed down now after a few miles. I read the same in another review but didn't expect them to do that with a stiff sidewall. Either way so far I like them, they have minimal noise for a mud tire and less than my Cooper AT's I had on it.
