I bought these tires for a weekend sports car. The tires look great, handle well and are quiet on the highway. I was a little disappointed that the tires I received were dated 2016, so they were already 3 years old when I bought them. Because my car is a low mileage weekend car, unfortunately I will have to replace these tires long before they wear out. Simple Tire offered a refund if I wanted to return the tires, but I decided to keep them.

One of the oldest tire companies in the world, Firestone is currently owned by the Japanese tire maker Bridgestone. With a century-old legacy, Firestone has been rolling out tires in various categories such as all-season, all-terrain, all-weather, summer, winter, UHP, and commercial. Among its range of performance summer tires is the Firehawk 900 which assures excellent grip and performance in warmer weather conditions.
Built on racing heritage, the Firestone Firehawk 900 features a directional tread pattern for stronger grip and better handling and stability. Designed for sedans and coupes, the tire offers excellent wet traction thanks to the circumferential grooves and lateral grooves that help disperse water quickly from the tread and maintain traction. Multiple sipes and deep grooves further aid in returning a confident ride at high speeds. Also, the solid shoulder pattern infuses confidence while cornering at speed. With an H-speed and V-speed rating, the tire can drive safely up to 130 mph and 149 mph.
So, is this Firestone tire good enough to be preferred as a performance tire? Let’s find out in this Firestone Firehawk 900 tire review. Keep reading.
Features and Benefits
Summer, performance tires are engineered to deliver superb grip and traction on paved roads in warm weather conditions. The Firehawk 900 is also among the few tires to match that standard. Read below to know how it does that.
-
Reassuring grip – With a track-proven performance, the directional tread pattern nicely grips the surface thanks to the strategic groove placement and multiple sipes. The circumferential grooves help in the fast evacuation of water from the surface to avoid the risk of hydroplaning in wet conditions. The unique tread pattern interlocks smoothly with the surface in warm conditions giving you a smooth ride quality.
-
Quiet and comfortable drive – The tread design with variable pitch sequencing ensures that soundwaves are trapped within the tread and reduce the chances of them reaching the cabin. While this makes the ride quiet, the flexible rubber compound and sidewall design absorbs most of the road bumps so you get a comfortable driving experience.
-
Improved handling and stability – The constant road contact of the tread enhances its handling and cornering. The continuous center rib improves steering feedback and makes it more precise. The driving pressure is distributed optimally among the blocks of the contact area which helps improve stability and handling. Additionally, the shoulder tread blocks provide excellent cornering ability at high speeds.

Only have about a thousand miles or so on these tires, but so far, so good. The only choice for an H-rated tire for my '79 Mazda RX-7; hadn't found any other tire with this speed rating in a 13-inch size! Only reason I gave an "N/A" rating in Tread Life and Winter Traction is because I haven't had the tires long enough to gauge the tread wear and no winter weather here in Texas yet!
