Continental is a multinational corporation that was established in 1871 and produces tires for passenger cars, commercial trucks, and two-wheelers that are reliable, effective, and performance-oriented. With a wide product range suitable for use in a variety of situations and applications, they are among the top producers of tires and tire technology. Additionally, Continental improves mobility for everyone by making it smarter, safer, cleaner, and more affordable.

The Continental Terrain Contact A/T is an all-terrain tire that is designed for crossovers, SUVs, and light trucks. These perform well and have the durability to handle dirt, gravel, and paved surfaces. Is it, however, the best tire for your vehicle and budget? Let's take a look at a Continental TerrainContact A/T review to see if it's the right tire for you.

    Features and Benefits

Continental TerrainContact A/T tires on a Toyota Tundra

If your vehicle frequently travels on both regular roads and off-road terrain, as might be the case with an SUV or pick-up truck used for commuting between cities and rural roads, you might want to learn more about the features and benefits of Terrain Contact A/T. A few of them are following:

    • Balanced off-road traction with on-road manners: All-terrain tires provide excellent traction on and off-road surfaces. This provides them with a versatile performance because they can provide a better driving experience on a variety of terrain and road surface conditions. The TerrainContact A/T features large tread elements which, combined with the siping detail, improve the tire's grip on soft, loose, and uneven terrain surface conditions, while also increasing on-road driving performance. With a greater number of biting edges, these tread elements enable the tire to perform on soft sand and in deeper mud.

    • Consistent traction: Wide groove pattern and staggered tread blocks remove mud and snow while also ejecting rocks caught between the tread elements. This keeps mud and snow from getting in the way of the tire's contact with the terrain and road surface, and it also keeps stone retention from damaging the tire's casing.

    • Robust durability: A full length, reinforced steel belt structure contributes to the model's ideal tire shape under load and driving pressure. This design prevents the tire shape from deforming under pressure, increasing load and driving durability. As a result, the model improves load carrying and withstanding capacity, increasing load capacity and ensuring better performance. Strong shoulders and a flat footprint put more rubber on the road, reducing uneven wear and extending tread life.

    • Better fuel Efficiency and a longer tread life: By reducing rolling resistance, EcoPlus technology lowers fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

    • Quiet, comfortable ride: Most all-terrain tires are somewhat noisy, which is expected from their aggressive tread patterns. That’s not the case with the TerrainContact A/T, as Continental engineered it with an all-season tire in mind and further optimized the tread pattern to reduce road noises and vibrations on paved roads. The result here is an all-terrain tire that blends off-road performance with off-road ride comfort to help give drivers the best of both worlds.

    Pros and Cons

So, is the TerrainContact A/T the best fit for your truck or SUV? Before giving our final opinion, let's first look at its Pros and Cons:

    • All-terrain tread to improve the traction of the tires on off-road surfaces like rocks and mud while also providing strong handling on paved roads
    • Backed by 60,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty
    • TractionPlus Technology, which improves on and off-road traction and durability
    • Covered under Continental's Total Confidence Plan, which includes Road Hazard, Limited Warranty, and Customer Satisfaction
    • Available in Outlined White Letter and Black Sidewall.
    • Quieter ride

Despite the fact that the Continental TerrainContact A/T has all of these features and benefits tire could be better in some areas like

    • Rolling resistance is slightly higher, which could lead to a less fuel efficient ride
    • Handling balance on gravel could be better

SimpleTire’s view on Continental TerrainContact A/T tires

The Continental TerrainContact A/T is a fantastic option if you require an all-terrain tire. When compared to the Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus and Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT, the Continental TerrainContact A/T tires provide better year-round traction, handling, and performance. Although it costs a little more than the Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT and is comparable in price to the Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus, the Continental TerrainContact A/T has a longer warranty. Overall, due to its good performance, the Continental TerrainContact A/T is a better all-terrain tire option.

Vehicles the Continental TerrainContact A/T can be used on

Even though it is not used as original equipment, the Continental TerrainContact A/T is an excellent substitute for Jeep Wrangler, Chevrolet Silverado, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Honda Ridgeline.

So far so good. Replaced original tires on my F-250. Instantly noticed super smooth handling characteristics on wet and dry. Very quiet compared to the original Goodyear Wrangler's. Pulled out a stuck golf cart in the mud. The kids were afraid I would get stuck, too but I didn't even spin...credit to the tires I was made the hero:-)

These are some of the best AT tires I've used. I do a lot of highway driving but also get off road for hunting. This is not you mud tire but will get the job done for the occasional trips off road. Super quiet which is what I wanted!

Pretty happy with these tires so far. Close to 10k on them and they are wearing well. I rotate with each oil change. Not bad in deep snow, but not the greatest on icy roads. They're a harder compound tire, so you get a bit of "thump, thump, thump..." for the first couple of miles after they have been sitting for a couple days. Once they warm up, they're fine, though. I run these on a Subaru Forester so I don't have to change my tires twice a year.

Great all around tire. Haven't had the chance to really play in the mud with them, but other than that, I have been very happy and don't have to swap out tires twice a year. I'm running these on a Subaru Forester. They are quieter than my worn out touring tires were, but you can certainly hear them. Not too bad, though. Not quite the winter traction I was hoping for. Not bad in deep snow, but they don't like ice (granted, what unstudded tire does?). If you drive in a lot of icy conditions, I recommend having a set of chains to be over cautious. I opted for these vs. the Yokohama Overlander due to price and advertised tread life. When I've worn these out (which is looking like it will be a while), I will certainly look at another set.

Decent all around tire. Hardly any road noise, which is nice. Not quite the bite in the snow that I was hoping for, but not bad. I'm running these on a Subaru. It's nice that I won't have to worry about switching tires around twice a year. So far, I'm pretty happy with them.
