The Potenza series of tires from Bridgestone has proven itself for terrific value and performance. These tires deliver great year-round traction, a forgiving ride, low road noise, and responsive, precise handling, and the Potenza RE980AS+ is no exception. With a generous treadwear warranty and a load of innovations, the Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS+ tire is a great choice for a wide range of sporty coupes, sedans, and CUVs.

    Features and Benefits

The Potenza RE980AS+ is packed with the kinds of features that Bridgestone has become known for:

    • Asymmetric tread pattern is designed to balance wet-weather performance with dry-pavement control and handling
    • Tread pitch is computer-tuned to help cancel road noise
    • High sipe density adds thousands of biting edges for enhanced wet or wintry traction, and their full depth ensures long wear and performance over time
    • Circumferential grooves help evacuate water from the contact patch to avoid hydroplaning
    • Angled grooves are interconnected to enhance wet-weather traction
    • Three polyester sidewall plies and two polyester tread plies deliver sharp handling without sacrificing ride comfort
    • High-stiffness sidewall filler boosts tire rigidity for cornering and braking performance
    • Twin steel belts with spiral-wound nylon cap layer
    • Advanced tread compound engineered for long wear while staying flexible at subfreezing temperatures for year-round traction
    • Backed by a 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty

    Pros and Cons

Like most Bridgestone tires, the Potenza RE980AS+ has more strengths than weaknesses.

    PROS:

    • Outstanding braking and handling performance
    • Generous treadwear warranty
    • Tight, responsive handling and cornering ability
    • Low noise
    • 50,000 mile warranty

That being said, the tire does have some drawbacks.

    CONS:

    • Premium price
    • Snow performance isn’t great

SimpleTire’s view on Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS Plus tires

Bridgestone has been at the top of the game for a long, long time and tires like the Potenza RE980AS+ are the reason why. It’s rare that you find a tire that offers Grand Touring comfort and low noise with year-round traction and UHP-style handling, but that’s what the Potenza RE980AS+ delivers. Even drivers of high-performance sports sedans can push this tire to its absolute limit on hairpin turns and switchbacks, and it still won’t lose its composure.

If that matches up to your expectations and if that’s the kind of car or crossover you drive, you can’t go wrong with the Potenza RE980AS+. But even if you drive a more-sedate coupe or luxury sedan, you’ll still get a tire that offers long wear with phenomenal handling, road manners, and ride comfort.

Vehicles the Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS Plus is a good replacement tire for

An ultra-high-performance all-season tire, the Potenza RE980AS+ is available for a wide variety of vehicles. If you drive an Audi S8, BMW 328i, Cadillac ATS, Chevrolet Impala, Ford Focus, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Sorento, Mazda6, Mini Cooper, Nissan Altima, Subaru Outback, Toyota Camry, or Volkswagen Golf, then this is a tire you could consider if you want high-performance year-round.

Superior to the comparable Michelin's that came on my Cruze RS hatch IMO...for about $250 less for the set...only ? left is tread life...smooth quiet ride...they grip like a magnet....
