My husband's tire blew out today on sidewall only 20,000 miles in them. Dealership where he bought the tires wouldn't replace or give any discount on a new tire.

The all-season tire is like the casual cross-trainer shoe of the tire world. They can’t do everything, meaning they’re usually not great in deep snow or mud and may not have the cornering ability of an ultra-high-performance tire, but they’re an excellent choice for day-to-day driving on long interstate trips or errands and commuting. You can generally count on all-season tires to deliver long, even wear, a ride that’s compliant with low noise, handling that’s predictable and capable, good grip in wet or dry conditions (or light snow), and driver-friendly road manners at highway speed.
For sedans, minivans, coupes, and crossovers, there are a whole lot of all-season tire choices on the market at every imaginable price point and quality, from the cheapest brands to top-tier performance-oriented premium all-season tires. Today we’re talking about the Advanta ER800, a tire that delivers performance and value that far exceeds expectations considering its affordable price.
So what is it about the tire that makes it such a strong performer and great value? Let’s go in for a closer look with this Advanta ER800 review:
Features and Benefits
Here are just a few of the great features and bullet points you can expect with the Advanta ER800:
- Symmetric all-season tread pattern with deep circumferential grooves and lateral grooves to evacuate standing water from the tire’s contact patch and resist hydroplaning
- A dense network of sipes, hair-thin slits that give hundreds of extra biting edges to multiply traction in snow, slush, wet pavement
- Low rolling resistance cuts fuel consumption and emissions along with promoting even wear properties
- Tread contact patch is optimized to put the most rubber on the road for improved handling, braking performance
- The tread area is reinforced to resist deformation and tread squirm due to the lateral forces of cornering and braking
- Tread pitch is randomized and computer-tuned to cancel certain frequencies and keep road noise low
- Backed by a 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty
- Solid center rib enhances straight-line stability, road manners, steering response
- Stiffer outboard ribs and shoulder reinforced for improved cornering dynamics
- Polyester casing reinforced by two steel belts and a nylon cap layer for stability and ride cushioning
Pros and Cons
So, is this Advanta tire the right choice for your ride and budget? Before you decide, let’s take a look at the tire’s strengths and weaknesses:
PROS:
- Handling is predictable, capable, and consistent
- Low rolling resistance saves fuel
- The ride is quiet and refined
- Good road feedback and responsiveness to driver commands
CONS:
- Not good in heavier snow
- Not designed to be pushed to the limits of handling and cornering
- Some reviews report that it can break traction with heavier, more powerful vehicles
SimpleTire’s view on Advanta ER800 tires
Our experience with the Advanta ER800 has been overall pretty positive. This is a tire that gets the job done; even if it doesn’t deliver UHP levels of cornering and braking ability, it’s certainly competent unless you’re the kind of driver who likes to push the envelope hard on off-ramps and winding roads. Traction in wet weather is consistent thanks to the all-season symmetric tread pattern. Dry-road traction is equally solid, and it gives you solid stability for long interstate runs and straight roads. Noise levels are surprisingly quiet, and ride quality is more along the lines of what you might expect from a Grand Touring tire. The 50,000 mile warranty is also better than you might expect for many tires in this price range.
No, the Advanta ER800 doesn’t do well in deeper snow – most all-season tires don’t, but it’s composed and confident in wet conditions. And it’s probably a good idea to use this tire on compacts and midsize vehicles rather than something like a V8 Dodge Charger or Ford Mustang; tires like the Advanta ER800 aren’t engineered for the massive amount of torque and horsepower these cars can deliver. What the Advanta ER800 does do well, however, is to just be an affordable, reliable all-season tire for long interstate trips or the stop-and-start driving you do around town (and it’ll do it without cleaning out your checking account).
