  • Falken Rubitrek A/T Tire Review

Falken is a Japanese tire manufacturer founded in 1983 and made its debut in the North American subcontinent in 1985 as a performance-centric brand of Sumitomo Rubber Industries. The brand has earned a fan base because of its excellent performances in the world of motorsports at championships like King of the Hammers, Formula Drift, Red Bull Air Race, Le Mans, and more. Headquartered in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Falken offers a wide range of tires for use on passenger cars, CUVs, SUVs, light trucks, trailers, and commercial vehicles. Falken has a diversified portfolio, which is categorized into all-season, all-terrain, all-weather, winter, UHP all-season, UHP summer, rugged-terrain, mud-terrain, highway, performance, and commercial van tires.

Introduced in 2012 by the Japan-born tire manufacturer, the Falken Rubitrek A/T is a great all-terrain tire suitable for use on SUVs, Jeeps, and light trucks. Features and Benefits

The good thing about all-terrain tires is that they are very versatile and can be taken on both beaten paths as well as paved roads. These tires are good for drivers who typically drive on paved roads and also occasionally drive in rugged conditions like mud, dirt, gravel, sand, and rocks. Another great attribute of these tires is that they come with year-round usability, which allows drivers to use them in dry, wet, and light winter conditions. The Rubitrek A/T also comes with similar abilities, but it is additionally offered with all-weather driving capability, including moderate to severe winter conditions. Let’s take a look at the tire’s features and corresponding benefits to understand in detail.

    • Aggressive off-road ability – The Rubitrek A/T features an aggressive tread pattern that’s optimized for solid off-road performance. The presence of an aggressive upper sidewall featuring offset shoulder blocks resists damage in rugged terrains and also improves off-road traction in low tire pressures or in off-camber situations.
    • All-weather traction and grip – The Rubitrek A/T is Three Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) approved to provide impressive traction and grip even in moderate to severe winter conditions. Likewise, the presence of multiple sipes across the tread, along with silica tread compound, improves grip and traction in dry, wet, and snowy conditions. The tread depth of the tire is optimized for consistent traction and grip in diverse weather conditions, and also contributes to better snow grip and hydroplaning resistance in wet weather conditions.
    • Impressive towing support and stability – The Rubitrek A/T uses heat diffuser technology in the lower sidewall to control heat so that the internal tire structure is guarded optimally. When this area is cool, it also contributes to increased stability even when carrying heavy loads or towing.
    • Superior wear life – The Rubitrek A/T gets a class-leading tread depth for long-lasting wear, and its wide and flat contact patch contributes to even wear by distributing driving forces across the contact patch. Its aggressive sidewall, along with solid shoulder blocks, contributes to damage resistance and tire protection in rough conditions for long-lasting service.
    • Crisp highway controllability – Optimized for driving on paved surfaces, the Rubitrek A/T features a wide and flat footprint for better ride control and handling on the highways and paved roads. The sidewalls of the tire are reinforced enough to hold the tire's shape and provide quicker and seamless lane changes. Additionally, the deeper tread and sipes across its length ensure in-time braking performance.
    • Backed by a tread life warranty – The Rubitrek A/T is covered by a 55,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty, offering a great ownership experience.

The Rubitrek A/T is offered in 15- to 20-inch rim sizes for increased compatibility with light trucks, Jeeps, and SUVs on the market. Some of its available sizes include:

    CONS:

SimpleTire’s view on Falken Rubitrek A/T tires

If you are looking for a highly capable all-terrain tire that comes with all-weather driving abilities, then the Rubitrek A/T could be a great choice for your budget. This tire earns a decent 8.6 in traction and is tuned to offer aggressive traction and grip during off-roading adventures, and also runs glued to the highways. It also offers a long-lasting service, thanks to its excellent 9.0 SimpleScore and a 55,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty. The handling performance of the Rubitrek A/T is also optimized better than some of its peers, and the 8.4 SimpleScore in this area attests its sharper steering response and great overall controllability.

It is Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified for use in moderate to severe winter conditions and is also available at a reasonable price tag compared to some rivals. The key highlight of the tire is its impressive stability and towing support, which makes it a great choice for heavy-duty and fleet operations, apart from its standard passenger commuting ability. Likewise, the construction of the tire and rubber compound is robust enough to resist wear and tear.

That being said, the Rubitrek A/T is not as great as the competition in some areas. Like its higher tread noise levels are often flagged by the customers, and also its fuel efficiency compared to some other AT tires on the market is slightly less. Additionally, do not expect this tire to be as outstanding as some of the rugged-terrain and mud-terrain tires offered on the market.

The Rubitrek A/T competes with all-terrain tires like:

So far these tires are performing well. Confident handling and braking in wet and dry conditions. No additional road noise over the stock all seasons. I'm running a 265/70R17 on my Jeep Gladiator.

These tires really do make your truck look better. Added about an 1 inch lift to my truck. A little louder on the road but overall love them

These Falken Rubitreks are a great value for money. They are tough looking on the sidewall but still have excellent on-road manners. I don't have many miles yet but they are wearing great and I expect a long tread life. My particular tires were manufactured in Thailand but your tire size may vary.

Falken Rubitreks are a great bang for your buck. They are quiet for an all terrain tire but I don't have too many miles on them yet. My size tires were manufactured in Thailand but your size may vary! They are also a very tough looking tire while still have good on-road manners.

Did look around for a set of wheels for my lifted Cayenne and ended up going for these. Rugged look, very comfortable on the highway with not much noice at all and have done 25k miles now and they are just great.

These are the worst tires I've ever had for a 4RUNNER. They're loud on roads, suck in rain and snow. I would not recommend these tires to anyone! In the rain my ass end slides all over.......with less than 2k miles on them, I can only imagine at 30k! I go off road every couple of months and they are okay for that but on road they suck!
