  • If you’re even considering a mud-terrain tire, you already know what you’re looking for. You need a tire that offers strong, dependable traction in the thickest, soupiest, sloppiest mud and can hold up under rough use off-road. That’s pretty much what you should expect, and that’s exactly what you get when you go with the Crosswind M/T. This is a tough mud-terrain tire that’s designed for tough conditions, for the kind of off-road adventures you have in mind.

But is this the right tire for you and your ride? Let’s take a deeper look in this Crosswind M/T review.

    Features and Benefits

The Crosswind M/T is loaded with features and ideas that make it a strong contender in a crowded field of mud-terrain tires for light trucks, Jeeps and SUVs:

    • Damage-resistant tread compound for extra durability
    • Aggressive mud-terrain tread pattern with alternating shoulder lugs enhance lateral traction to dig your way out of ruts or deep mud
    • Stone ejectors built into tread grooves to the protect casing from damage and to enhance self-cleaning
    • Good flotation in deep mud to prevent sinking
    • Can be used aired-down for rock crawling
    • Enhanced load capacity for extra durability

    Pros and Cons

With a mud terrain tire, the pros are going to be pretty obvious:

    PROS:

    • Outstanding grip in mud, sand, snow
    • Good self-cleaning
    • Durable

The cons, unfortunately, are obvious too:

    CONS:

    • Noisy on the highway
    • Not intended for high-speed driving
    • Should not be used in severe icy and snow

SimpleTire’s view on Crosswind M/T tires

Mud-terrain tires are a different beast. They’re not a great choice for daily drivers or commuting, as they’re designed for extreme conditions and heavy, muddy terrain. Mud-terrain tires also tend to be pretty expensive, and the Crosswind M/T comes in at a lower price point than many. Sure, it’s noisy and it doesn’t have a high speed rating, but that goes with the territory with tires like this. If you’re looking for an aggressive mud-terrain tire for your truck, SUV or Jeep, and don’t have a lot to spend, you can’t go wrong with this one.

Vehicles the Crosswind M/T is a good replacement tire for

While not used as original equipment on any vehicle, the Crosswind M/T is still a popular replacement option. Consider this tire if you drive a Chevrolet Tahoe, Dodge Durango, Ford F-250, GMC Yukon, Jeep Wrangler, Nissan Titan, RAM 1500, or Toyota Tundra that frequently goes off-roading.

These tires are noisy and will increase vibration due to the heavy knobby tread. They are difficult to balance for some reason. I have them on a 2000 4Runner and they look great! Would buy again, no. If you're looking for cheap, nice looking, off road look tires and willing to put up with noisy and vibration, these are it.

No problem in driving across hilly fields with a foot of snow and sleet mix in an all-wheel drive dual rear wheel Chevrolet 3500.
