An advanced Tube Multicell® compound in the Blizzak WS-50™ provides even better snow and ice traction than the original Multicell® compound. The unique Multicell® compound is the reason that Blizzak has dominated the winter tire market. The compound contains millions of microscopic pores that help the tires stick to ice by displacing the thin layer of surface water that can allow a car to slide. The microscopic pores on the tread surface not only help displace the film of water that occurs between the ice and tires, but also create an edge effect so that the edges of the pores bite the snow and ice surface, creating greater driving and braking forces. The Tube Multicell compound features microscopic tubes in addition to the pores. These tubes work in conjunction with the pores to displace water on top of the ice. The Blizzak WS-50™ contains UNI-T® (an acronym for Ultimate Network of Intelligent Tire Technologies). UNI-T® is a combination of advanced technologies that work together to create the most advanced tire available. The Blizzak WS-50™ is a dual compound (cap and base) tire. The cap features the Tube Multicell® compound and the base is comprised of a winter compound, allowing use as a basic winter tire. When the Blizzak is 50 percent worn, a tread depth indicator on the tire tread lets the motorist know that only ten percent of the remaining tread is the Multicell® compound. The Blizzak WS-50™ has a tread pattern that not only helps provide better snow and ice traction than the original Blizzak, but also enhanced wet and dry handling. While providing enhanced winter driving performance, the Blizzak WS-50™ offers similar tread life and pattern noise and better ride comfort for the driver as the original Blizzak.
