Bmw M240i Tires
Premiering in 2017, BMW’s M240i is part of the 2-Series of compact coupes; it’s powered by a 335 hp turbo 3.0L inline 6 and is available in coupe or convertible body styles. The M240i is fast – 0-60 in 4 seconds flat and only 103 feet of braking distance to go back down to 0 again. It also offers Grand Touring coupe comfort and refinement, with a longer wheelbase and adaptive suspension for an accommodating ride. While the M240i has a cutting-edge infotainment system, drivers appreciate the fact that it also still uses knobs and buttons for audio, climate, and other frequently accessed functions. As you’d probably expect, the M240i is available with an optional xDrive AWD system for even stickier control during spirited driving. With lively handling and performance along with a thoughtfully laid-out interior and full suite of amenities, the BMW M240i is as fun to drive as it is elegant.
Here at SimpleTire, we went through the catalog and came up with some ultra-high-performance (UHP), UHP all-season, all-weather, and all-season tire options for your BMW M240i. We ranked them in Best/Great/Good order according to our SimpleScore system, which looks at data points for longevity, performance, and traction and then assigns a numerical score. Ready? Let’s get started:
1. Pirelli Cinturato WeatherActive: Best All-Weather tire
Let’s get this list going with a Pirelli All-weather tire, the Cinturato WeatherActive. The all-weather tire category might be kind of unfamiliar to many drivers; while all-weather tires are pretty similar in their design to their all-season brethren, they’re also designed for improved performance in winter traction without giving anything up in terms of braking, ride quality, tread life, road manners, handling and cornering dynamics. Pirelli has a decades-long heritage of innovation, value, and quality, and the Cinturato WeatherActive is no exception. The WeatherActive is one of the newer editions of their popular Cinturato lineup and is stamped with the tire industry’s Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rating for severe winter service. When it’s down to the real nitty gritty, the Cinturato WeatherActive is designed with a 3-rib directional tread pattern for enhanced rigidity and minimal tread squirm during braking or cornering. Angled grooves channel water and slush away from the contact patch to resist hydroplaning, along with a zigzag central groove. The Pirelli Cinturato WeatherActive is quiet too, with a tread pitch that’s randomized and computer-tuned to keep road noise to a minimum by canceling certain frequencies and resonances. The tread compound of the Cinturato WeatherActive is designed to stay flexible for great grip when temperatures are below freezing but is still tough and durable enough for long miles. The Cinturato WeatherActive is backed with a 60,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty. After we did our calculations for the WeatherActive, we came to SimpleScores of 9.8 for traction, 9.2 for longevity, and 9.5 for handling – all very respectable results, if you ask us.
2. Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus: Best UHP All-Season tire
Next up is a tire that covers the UHP bases along with year-round traction – the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS. The ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS gives you the versatility of an all-season tire that you can depend on for traction in wet, dry, or light wintry weather, but with the kind of traction, cornering, braking, steering response, and overall handling you expect from a UHP tire. That’s pretty nice when you remember that UHP and summer tires have to be swapped for all-season tires in colder weather as the softer tread compound hardens in the cold. The ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS is an upgrade from the popular, proven ExtremeContact DWS06 in just about every aspect, with cornering ability, braking, and steering response that all get a boost from the tire’s reinforced 2-ply sidewalls and macroblocks in the tread. After doing the math, the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS gets an impeccableSimpleScore of 9.9 for handling. Long life and great wet-weather traction are also strong points for the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS, with its silica-rich tread compound, sweeping lateral grooves, circumferential grooves, and X-sipes for rainy or light wintry conditions. SimpleScore for traction: 9.8. Longevity is excellent with a 9.2 SimpleScore, and the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus is covered by a 60,000 mile warranty.
3. Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate: Best UHP tire
We haven’t talked about a UHP tire yet, so here's one of our favorites: the Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate, a tire that you can depend on for jaw-dropping performance. The Eagle Exhilarate’s tread pattern is designed with five ribs and wide circumferential grooves along with a high-silica tread formulation that boosts wet-weather grip and wear properties. There’s a network of sipes and lateral/angled grooves, enough for a SimpleScore of 9.9 for traction. Cornering, braking distances, and steering response all exceed expectations, thanks to reinforced shoulders, a stiff tread face that holds up against inertia and G-forces of cornering, and a footprint that’s optimized for more positive contact with the road. SimpleScore for handling: 9.9. Internal engineering of the Eagle Exhilarate includes a polyester casing, lightweight, high-tensile steel belts, and two layers of polyamide reinforcement plies for ride comfort and high-speed stability. Goodyear offers a 45,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for this tire, and SimpleTire calculated a SimpleScore of 8.6 for longevity. That’s another plus when you consider that most UHP and summer tires don’t even offer a mileage warranty at all.
While these are the best BMW M240i tires on the market, there are plenty of other options to consider:
4. Yokohama Advan Sport A/S+: Great UHP All-Season tire
Here’s another tire that’s a great balance of all-season traction along with the driving dynamics of a UHP tire. The Yokohama Advan Sport A/S+ is designed around a custom-blended rubber formulation that’s infused with silica for durability and enhanced wet-weather traction, and high-turnup, optimized sidewall design that extends reinforcement higher up the sidewall than most tires for stability and great handling. Yokohama covers the Advan Sport A/S+ with a 55,000 mile warranty, and we calculated a SimpleScore of 8.6 for longevity. The combination of circumferential grooves, inboard serpentine grooves, and a combination of wavy sipes and streaming Z-grooves deliver year-round grip and register a very respectable SimpleScore of 9.9 for traction. We figured out a 9.9 for handling, thanks to extra-large outboard shoulder blocks, the high-turnup sidewall, and 2-in-1 intermediate tread blocks that deliver excellent cornering, braking, and steering response.
5. Falken Azenis FK510: Good UHP All-Season tire
Last but not least is a great value in an ultra-high-performance tire that punches far above its weight class. The Azenis FK510 inspires sharp cornering and braking performance with a semi-solid center rib, wide shoulder blocks, and lateral notches, for a SimpleScore of 8.7 for handling. Wet and dry-weather grip are first-rate, with circumferential grooves and angled grooves, for a traction SimpleScore of 8.8. The Falken Azenis FK510 benefits from an advanced tread compound and undertread construction with a 4D Nano design, for a SimpleScore of 7.8 for longevity.
