There are a lot of different kinds of racing tires out there for performance applications – drag racing tires, racing slicks, street racing tires, dirt-track tires and many, many more.
Some can double as street tires for your daily driver, while many others are totally unsuited for street use. While they can vary greatly in terms of design tread pattern and sidewall, one thing that pretty much all racing tires have in common is a softer tread compound. Their softer, stickier rubber is intended for positive traction for acceleration, steering and braking…the down side of that, of course, is that pavement will chew up their tread faster, especially under the hard use that racing calls for.
